Deal reached on Capitol Hill exactly his life from Washington DC Jay Sekulow phone lines are open for your questions right now called one 800-6843 1-101-800-6841 10 and the chief counsel for the American Center for Law and Justice Jay Sekulow you latest hear what we know at least what we think we know.
I think is a fair way of saying the White House and the Senate bill this morning on the $2 trillion criminal virus relief bill now. Speaker of the house's endorsement of this on Nancy Pelosi's was being described as tepid.
There is was an issue that broke yesterday afternoon. We told we been on top of this bill since it came out, and have been following it very very closely and there was a stimulus deal, snag, and that was over abortion providers. This came about 6 o'clock last night and was fined of an abortion providers like Planned Parenthood is a hold up here and the Democrats want abortion providers to be eligible for aid under the small business portion of the bill so we understand that that did not succeed, and we know now we don't have language that Jamie did.
This is one of the provisions that we actually flag for the hills. Among other people. Essentially, J Justin in a nutshell. The left wanted Planned Parenthood and other providers to be able access the small business loans. The ones that are intended to meet payroll. That was the provision we are looking to get changed. J am hearing from multiple sources on the hill that that has been corrected, but I would just say I got about 3000 pages worth of bills sitting right here that I've been through that we found problems and I want to see the actual language and confirm that it's fixed before I tell you that it is will vote here was a question when it will ask about banks. We don't know.
They are literally drafting the language as we speak and we have to have that language actually before there's a vote. The expectation would be that it would be today J although they were planning on coming in at noon and then voting shortly thereafter I can tell you the house would not even consider this until tomorrow, and there's at least one very high-level source and I'm talking to that says they won't look at it until Friday because Speaker Pelosi with Jay.
Brace yourself. Speaker Pelosi might want to make changes I want. It's really important for the American people to hear with interest set.
So while the headline is historic deal reached the sub headline is Logan no deal really reached yet negotiations continue to make someone feel good that when you read headline read the hell I got alert overnight at some point, 3 o'clock in the morning so that I got that a deal was reached for this multitrillion dollar deal to help out by the American people help out American companies. But as we woke up and really started going to detail. You realize that no one really knows what's in it what's what's actually the truth and if it will all go down in it and so far where is recording this live. There's no specific details really to report yet.
So what's in it. I guess it's a better guess again yeah but then let's talk about what this can mean she says she wants changes.
Means you can't get enacted into law. I mean J here's the deal. If the Senate votes to pass it today. They're planning to leave town partially for social distancing.
They send it over the house if the house makes changes J if they just make minor changes which is what she's talking about and means the Senate would have to consider it again it at the Senate back across the hill so just boil it all down to this. If the house does not pass this as passed by the Senate. Even if the Senate gets there deal through this will not be law this week there still a lot of moving parts here.
J got a tell you this though.
I mean, when you see this thing a Democrat predicates and more than Planned Parenthood would be affected by the language, but they clearly that the language that the Republicans put in Bart. It but the Democrats want the abortion provider be eligible for eight. We think that's not in there.
We know know that's what were continuing work on it and then you got what Speaker Diophantus that the speaker the one spent the be more coming out to see this coming days, but also later tonight. Will keep you updated not only on a scale J not orchestra social media outlets which are following us on Facebook, which are following us on Twitter at all for social media. The ACLJ's as well. Jay Sekulow of Latrobe right now for your calls 100-684-3110. That's 100-6431 10 to have your voice heard on the air.
We want to know what you think about this and how to continue going on in America we don't know exactly what I do little Lou belatedly Friday ACLJ.the American Center for Law and Justice were engaged in critical issues at home and abroad.
Whether it's defending religious freedom.
Rejecting those who persecuted uncovering corruption in the Washington bureaucracy and fighting to protect life in the courts and in Congress ACLJ would not be able to do any of this without your support for that. We are grateful. Now there's an opportunity for you to help me way limited time you can participate in the ACLJ's matching challenge every dollar you donate $10 gift dollar gift becomes 100.
This is a critical time for the ACLJ. The work we do. Simply would not occur without your generous take part in our matching challenge today make a difference in the protecting the constitutional and religious freedoms online LJ only when a society can agree that the most vulnerable invoice. Is there any hope for that culture to survive. And that's exactly what you are saying when you stand with the American Center for Law and Justice, defendant the right to life, we've created a free and powerful publication offering a panoramic view of the ACLJ's battle for the unborn Gold edition life will show you how you are personally publication includes a look at all major ACLJ pro-life cases were fighting for the rights of pro-life activists. The ramifications of Roe V Wade, 40 years later Planned Parenthood's role in the what Obama care means to the pro-life discover the many ways your membership in the ACLJ is empowering the right question for copy of mission life today online ACLJ/Jay Sekulow lie this Logan Sekulow and we are taking phone calls 100 684 31 to but we wanted to talk about recently. Everyone got the alert on the phone probably only resign hey the stimulus package. There's a deal.
We have a deal right. But as we now know as time has unraveled over the last few hours that there is likely a deal, but nothing of substance now is nothing set in stone I think is important for the American people understand this elastic yesterday evening about like this we started talking about this on our chat with an art. Our firm here in the ACLJ there. There appear to be a fight coming over and abortion provider issue which he knew was going to happen manager she could predict these things. Like you could predict that your unit at 12 o'clock noon.
A lot of people go to eat lunch.
You have a bill like this and try to get something and help abortion and and that's exactly what happens.
The Democrats wanted abortion providers to be eligible for aid under the small business portion of the bill were not even sure that dentists are garbed in others bid the dentist lobby is worried about whether they're covered on some of this out here.
Here's the thing. I think the American people need understand what were getting close to a deal or deal in principles and rates. Nothing has been signed, nor has anything been seen and I think than that to me presents with the real problem is here.
Nothing has been seen. We don't know what this is going to entail hundred percent jamming liquid. Here's the mechanics of how works. The principles come out of that meeting leader Schumer leader McConnell Mark Meadows Sec. mission and say we have a deal.
We have language on some provisions and we are still writing the other. So there literally writing those provisions as we speak. J. Well, those of us who have been watching these pieces of legislation and actually flagging some of the problems after the hill we haven't seen that language, even the principals negotiating them haven't seen what the legislative lawyers will produce that they have an agreement in principle I would say that is a good thing. At least were moving forward. But JI mean yet you have to trust DC an awful lot to hear the words, we have a deal and just trust that the $2 trillion. That's inside of it is actually going to what they say what were knocking to do that were gonna wait for the legislation were to go through it and work and can confirm that it does what they say it will do. And even if it does J gotta go over the house Yep speaker policy has to resist the urge to make changes and then she's got ascended to the President so we have to take this one step at a time just so just so everybody understands exactly was a placer. It is not. It's possible that we don't get the final votes on this until this coming Friday and then and Nancy Pelosi's already said she still wants him changes in the language so our job is not done that is for sure and maybe blurry for some people that say what day it is.
This is Wednesday so they've got three more days of one that is up to mess this up till he gets a final vote, so I let go of. Because a lot of people are calling very specific questions and they wish to know the answers. As these women seem 11 say that neither to blame other people have it yet so you will do our best to answer is much we can I let's go there to Jennifer first is calling in Washington on line 1 Jennifer welcome you on the air plundering on the barrel and container even though he is going to get it and change it again was using it to change it unilaterally.
So what can happen is the sense in a passive version and then I try to reconcile it with the house so the problem is that reconciliation process. That is where the mischief could start again.
That's what lawyers and government affairs people and working on this right now I'm working on all day yesterday and today and has not stopped but they will. The first thing I would say to Jennifer's at the region. The Senate needs to move forward without Speaker Pelosi's approvals because she's not a member of the Senate and her bill is a nonstarter. It will not become law. They will not sign a bailout for the Postal Service in corporate board diversity and all the rest that will not works of the Senate bill passed the past but to your larger point J yeah I mean if the bill goes over there to the house and they just change one provision.
Let's say they you know double the length of the unemployment insurance or what ever really any of those provisions that she had in her bill if they change it.
It's got to come back to the Senate procedurally so if it does get out of the Senate J, I think beat the ask of the house is very clear.
Pass this by unanimous consent and send it to the President for his signature. Jennifer know you're on your calling from Washington state.
You had a lot of outbreaks up there so be safe. Okay you are right, or play with Gov. Andrew Cuomo just said in a press conference regarding the money that's coming him.
This is where the this is where the tension points are good debate New York City only gets $1.3 billion from this package that is a drop in the bucket has to need. I spoke to our house. Delegation congressional delegation this morning. I said to them, just doesn't do it, you know, I understand the Senate theory and the Republican theory, but we need to house to make adjustments to do this is where the look he's got a very difficult situation up there in New York City in a specific case. Honestly, New York City, New York. In general having a really hardly 5000 as you hit the hardest. Really were second or third California initially and well and states still bad those areas but a cellular California, but New York is being hit very hard. Lots of restrictions for New York, whether it's shutting down streets, or if you've been to New York in the last few months or few weeks there asking you to do the self quarantine so there's a lot of those cuttings can be answers in a very interesting spot is also the spot where he's on national news every day is just press conference is being highlighted. So if you can make a statement like this for his state Yorkshire. Why would the question is, now they did for New York if he says that as I can be trickle-down to all the other sailors who are now going to hold it all. If that's enough for New York that's not enough for us over in Texas that's not enough for other big areas in percale value modulation date New Orleans Louisiana really hard but I thought the interesting thing in this man was the last thing he says we need the house to make adjustments yesterday. If the house makes adjustments. He's not can get anything in the near term in Buckeye. I had, I thought.
I think the governor, has been pretty good.
Through this process, but I think we need to answer this pretty clearly did. He's got to be reasonable here and I will tell you the provisions in this bill are largely formulaic, which means the number he's giving for New York that might be the number that they automatically get, but J the evaluations are based on applications based on need. So if he puts in an application that demonstrates that he's got 20 times the need of California he's gonna get 20 times the resources of California. He has to be reasonable in this moment his choices are. The house makes changes and he gets nothing. Or there's a formulaic approach past. He applies in. Then he gets resources based on the needs he's gotta be careful here him I would take your calls 900 684 31 summer also encourage you to share this on your social media platforms yet please do share as we continue this conversation in support. For this time of need.
When in time when people are seeing recent headlines, maybe a little misleading. We can helpfully fill the gaps for you live, but in regard to the phone to Michelle in Kentucky online for you on the air. Michelle right you get your nothing is interfering with the money you're receiving. So let me tell you, but it's designed to do. We haven't seen the exact language at Michelle. So you're still getting your Social Security benefits and your Social Security payments as you have been correct. So the idea here is the real people that folks that need help and we have be really specific on this, the people that need relief are those and there are a lot of them that have been laid off from work can't make the rent payment having trouble getting the grocery bills paid and have no employment. Right now I for some reason yesterday. Got a a friend of mine sent me with Tom's buddy Dick is a kind of to show what was going on and it's one of these apt services that do and I don't know what the name of it is exactly but but it's a like a parking service park in a particular area made a note in late it was. He sent me the letter when they said we had a layoff rental basically entire staff and that they don't of the money to pay the staff there been a paper like March 15 but if you did any work in the last week is probably take until April 20 doing then we get relief will try to hire somebody back that's what this is designed to deal with not designed to be a bonus for PS I worked extra extra thousand dollars for people who blessedly need it. But here's the question. We know how the mattress will screw it up and get the job I'm at work were paying all will. The short answer is we don't know yet because we haven't seen the text. I will tell you the reports RJ that people that have no tax liability or little tax liability will get the same amount of the check as those who file taxes in 2018 nicely think that would be a very positive change again. If that's true, if that is in this agreement, the question about whether or not Social Security benefits would be increased. We don't know that answer at all day.
Those proposals were all over the board and we have absolutely zero legislative text on that provision, but low income folks reportedly are going to get the same amount as tax filers when I understand that but I don't understand why we would be giving money to people that are employed right now I think are some of the government and that was that. Probably the promised time to get it out. It may be quicker to everyone, get the money or assert that to certain paved patient then you had to say okay are you still is your employer still doing it now. Okay, good. Let's move on to the next with your employer still doing it so the silk paying you okay good. When I have to do for it would take too much time. I know it's it's hard to administer, but I'll take this American people look if you're employed and you're getting paid, you know somebody who's not. I said this the other day help that somebody else out because this is not designed to be a a bonus for your creative side projects. Okay I mean people are talking like that like this is I cannot do my little if I get it.
And I'm still employed some of this designed to do with pay bills, love thy neighbor is what this is really about love thy neighbor's adult don't do that, tempting as it might be people sad starts. I think now to worry that your job may not be there and we that I get all on the money I get that that's probably why they think about you absolutely will be back tomorrow Jay Sekulow live support work in the ACLJ were combing through this doing all this work so you don't have to do it for you. The ACLJ as part of March matching challenge really use your support if you donate if you donate donate online@aclj.org will be right back.
Only when a society can agree that the most vulnerable invoice is, is there any hope for that culture to survive. And that's exactly what you are saying when you stand with the American Center for Law and Justice, defendant right to life. We've created a free and powerful publication offering a panoramic view of the ACLJ's battle for the unborn is called mission life will show you how you are personally only publication includes a look at all major ACLJ pro-life Jesus were fighting for the rights of pro-life activists. The ramifications of weighing 40 years later Planned Parenthood's role in the what Obama care means to the pro-life in many ways your membership is empowering the right to question your free copy of mission life today online ACLJ/the American Center for Law and Justice were engaged in critical issues at home and abroad. Whether it's defending religious freedom.
Protecting those who are persecuted for their faith. Uncovering corruption in the Washington bureaucracy fighting to protect life in the courts and in Congress. ACLJ would not be able to do any of this without your support for that. We are grateful.
Now there's an opportunity for you to help me way limited time you can participate in the ACLJ's matching challenge every dollar you donate $10 gift dollar gift becomes 100.
This is a critical time for the ACLJ the work we do. Simply would not occur without your generous take part in our matching challenge today make a difference in protecting the constitutional and religious freedoms you forgive today online ACLJ Jay Sekulow live for your Wednesday is all run together when it's all self-important to a limited staff in all these kind of things we appreciate your take your time to listen to us today as we break down all you love you got that that alert on your phone. I know I do not look at the timestamp I got it sent ideals been made.
I got up to feed my cat midnight and I woke me up. No great deals but made when you have your cat waking up in the middle the is what he does. It's I don't I don't choose for this.
He just doesn't he wakes up and starts screaming and usually releasing a yes visa Garfield is a large cat is very hungry all the time. So then you looked into the checks so checks go where checks of $1200 checked every adult up to $75,000 in annual income, and then it starts phasing out anyone who receives makes more than $99,000 a year based on 2018 filings would not get a check. An additional $500 for each dependent child. So just you can work that all out J fits a married couple with two children making under combined hundred $98,000 you get $3400 and II really do think probably sometime on middle of April.
That first check would go out hopefully early April, but at least I know that I know the work in the neck trying to get. I should really try to take as many calls in the truck. I do not give him a lot of questions.
Let's go to Vivian California envisaged a question admitting you know that money and all that, by men in the homeless ministry here about the feral homeless people you know are trying get that coronavirus under control now.
Didn't do that if the homeless people living down the river, the absolute part of the idea with this package than it is to get paid also to organizations that are helping in that regard. Yeah, absolutely. Some of this is directed to hospitals and care providers. Others are to small businesses that exist in the space but J others always get to be a gap for the poor and needy and we talked about yes initial before that.
That's really our job so I would go back to something that you said if you do have a job if you do have a steady income and you do get this check. How about you think about applying it to some of these people to Vivian is talking about the outlook is much as the government can create these programs.
J it is not going to cover all of those people. A lot of that is gonna fall to us now and I think that's where look for those of us that are blessed with work and being paid during this time the smart utilize that money generously and Vivian's example of the homeless is exactly the kind of thing you will want to do if in fact you have employment and I know a lot of people think in the Logan I got employment this week right. I got employment. I think next week, but I don't know how this looks in 30 days underlying your age yeah I think that's true for a lot of people of the law have been quickly laid off over the idea that they could then file for unemployment. They could start doing that they've all been kind of reassuring hey F when we get to reopen sugar first on our list. But yeah, that this is concerning a lot of business owners are saying. Well, I don't often will be able to reopen under no formula reopen the weight scale as big as we were before the price in the hospitality industry in the hotel industry been hit.
The heart very hard very, very, very, so many people get a bit silly. People are employed and that image is not an airline be like thing that some the hotels and in achievement.
Washington with a employee may hundred thousands upon thousands of people right was thinking about our service like Disney and some of the themepark on the people to tens of thousands of people saying over 30,000 people. I think whatever you laid off most of the staff. I don't know exactly the details of certain restaurants that things have all the help I see a lot of her hourly either not full-time workers, seasonal workers, part-time workers, so it's a bit different. Sure salaried ones are little different but they haven't made a lot of details. Now they're all looking to hopefully they have a present from said yesterday with the he's he's aiming for Easter and the last precollege yeah yeah that's what I think it's good to say let's take this couple weeks at a time. I think that's good for a lot of people's mental state, even to go.
Okay, I can get them another two weeks of this and whether they can when you start telling people 36 months I think is where Pinnacle starts doing the same people.
A couple weeks. Maybe that helps and I got a lot of blowback on that got some heat for saying two weeks but any walk that back later in the evening and set ups were getting do with the professionals say we should all racial. That's the hope. And I think they give some hope to business owners think of some help to employees were maybe furloughed employees that are allayed often if there is a light the end of this tunnel is a concern for a lot of people. So, can you then turn it to where I in a couple weeks, some stuff comes back on online maybe. Maybe that's potential. What is had to see where things lay out, but that gave people even like in the themepark.
He said the resort industry. They all moved their dates than to Easter as their projected dates to try to get me. I think the idea is is as major regions of the country.
That's the plan where there's regions of the country that could open that are having it now. What you don't want to do was the concern that Santos in Florida said people start coming from the northeast in mass numbers down to Florida that have been subject to what may Gov. Cuomo's dealing with.
And all of a sudden you increase your infection rates drastically.
This is right. Right now we have 555,225 confirmed cases with 802 deaths.
So if you are looking coming. It's a lot of cases, but that the rate of a people passing without which by the way, in any number is not a good number we actually can have as we are.
She just got a draft of the text that we have in our lawyers look over it right now so that escapement. Oh, so we just got the bill. I believe so yes we just got a draft of it yet. We we got draft taxes not formally introduced. So again, still fluid, but at least there's tax that's been circulated in the Senate right now. I would like like Logan said, we have our attorneys looking at organist started some of those provisions that we had flagged over the last 24 hours so that's at least some encouraging news. I guess that it legally. Other people are seeing it now that start to get out there so hopefully that will have a better idea whether some of the can get past the good news here is still valid damages on church thousands. But here's the thing we got our team working through this.
The ideas to get something passes can help the American people. I will assure you that our team will be looking at this in great detail as they have been working to continue to press forward on this now were here for another 30 minutes of some of you only get the first half-hour broadcast but if you're on Facebook or listening to us on satellite radio station out to get up.
Would Logan let you know more about that bullet.
Let me encourage you to do something as we take a break were trying to do were encouraged to do in those you that support the work of the ACLJ do it online and I saying that because processing mail right now is very difficult for us because limited capability of doing that with the state homeowners in some areas and just getting the mail delivered.
So, online donations or are automatically processed and frankly more cost-effective for the ACLJ that's right if you could support work ACLJ. We really appreciate we are instill in their March matching challenging your donations are doubled. That means if you give $20 yielded to pay double you get $20 somebody else's matching that $20.40 pledge it set because $40 for dowsers $80 and so on and so on. So we really can appreciate you doing that online right now they own some of you send checks in the mail. Some people ascended there many other different ways. But right now in this time of crisis.
In this time of need. It really helps us out on some processing time speed any extra cost is always processing fees, and so on. This encompasses it directly and get quickly. That's it. ACLJ.org became part of the March matching challenge if you get $10 break that becomes $20 ACLJ's built on the back on people give if you think I can give you hundred thousand dollars right now the backbone of people back out of donors. 10 2030 $50 down, just so we really appreciate the support that I do encourage you to do that and also also for those of you that are important to get the speculation help those in need as well. Let me encourage you to share this with your friends with another half-hour. The Broncos were trying take a lot of calls we have one line open right now. That'll clear up just absolutely 164 3110 yesterday that export workdays at the American Center for Law and Justice were engaged in critical issues at home and abroad for limited time you can participate in the ACLJ matching challenge for every dollar you donate will be managed $10 gift becomes $20, $50 gift becomes 100 could make a difference in the one who knew protecting the constitutional and religious freedoms most important to you and your family. You forgive today online LJ live from Washington DC Jay Sekulow and now chief counsel for the American Center for Law and Justice Jay Sekulow rights were close to resolution.
This we don't have just gotten the language actually the concern we have is Nancy Pelosi says she wants to add some additional issues to it and Gov. Cuomo has said he's getting some help from the house to get some additional language in it and what exactly do we have we have the draft text now. Yes I have draft tax not formally introduce still circulating on the hilt. 890 pages so dramatically shorter than the Pelosi bill so you think. I think a lot of that stuff was appropriately stripped out great. I will tell you the J just an initial piece of good news. The provision that would have allowed Planned Parenthood and other large abortion providers to access the small business loans.
There is a fix in there that we were looking for, which is you. If you're up for a nonprofit or a group that gets Medicaid reimbursements you have more than 500 employees. This this these loans are not for you. That's not their purpose. That's in their day course we got it we got a check. We had to make sure making in the regulation, but some initial good news. There were to continue going through it and make sure that some of the other concerns we had her addressing imaginative or giving money to abortion clinics but not helping the organizations open almost anything about that from it, but let that one settled in on you for a minute that they were to give money to abortion clinics but they were not going to get give funds to homeless shelters of those reaching people that are on that literally on the streets.
While this disease is spreading. So that is a bit of good news.
And as I said, our lawyers have been working very aggressively been since me and others have been really going through this and now understands leadership of our government affairs office in Washington were doing that for our members of the ACLJ that's why you're supporting ACLJ are teams working on working hard on this. We are taking calls at which we want to do that. We got an interesting question that came up a good friend of ours. It came in for a producers that father Bill Haynes management amenity shared his his sermon is his whole church service this week. Your page as well as the secular community page because the secular community page doing this doing well get a lot of really good content, mature and stuff constantly putting people find out go to Facebook.com/the secular community.
Again, it's more a positive information mission daily devotionals that kind of content live concerts whatever there is were trying to share fun stuff as well as informative. Something is great place to stay informed. Again, he very heavily yeah I'm in the running. It pretty much that is all the people who are posting as well, but I'm in there posting doing a live streams and events will be doing more stuff as a weeks continuous. The page growth appreciate the support we were sharing that on Facebook is his church service falls.
Others of the week it will do that again this weekend is a lot of your commute from home allowed to bar watch are watching the church member looking for looking for a place to watch her hip us were providing that for you there on the secular community page but also he had a question which is an interesting one, which was from one of his members. I had recently been laid off and church members.
And then he asked is there thousand dollars coming in is it taxable. It's a good question. Is there anything in the bill regarding taxation plan.
I don't know the answer to that if I donated her to be very severe was because of that's such a giving people money to then tax some of the money that you just gave them feels like a switcheroo and an Oxley act could take hundreds of dollars from people check yeah let's find that out I mean about the pineapple as we go through will look but it's a very good question thank you Bill for something. The panel I think that's at least probably not in there is my guess. Or maybe it is within the tax code. If it's not in there that means yes.
Question the tasks of knives not in there that means no provision thing.well if it's not in there if it doesn't say is not taxable in stacks and stacks of rights. Absent brightness section 61 of the Internal Revenue Code defines taxes basically at taxable income as anything except it is exempt a lot of under their taxes right yet I did get that extended till April 15 is FRS of our friends who work in that industry working doing a tax preparation than other drive-through taxonomists can be tough to find a method like it's a it's a relief because it's like the dates that you not know that as much pressure will get some questions and comets coming up in the nice I don't get a lot of questions to ask and Facebook questions Philistines are you watching him. Please share this and if you're watching online gives a call. Still would love to hear from you. Love to hear from our social media viewers. That is it 100-684-3110 great video come after the break to support the work of the ACLJ's are March matching challenge until he goes about another week, which means if you give $10 at $10 2020 B is 40 and so on and so on. And we appreciate the support but give online you can know the great right now.
He said giving to the mail is amazing. We love it, but it does take a lot more time and man hours per sleep professions don't have to write out please give online ACLJ.the American Center for Law and Justice were engaged in critical issues at home and abroad. Whether it's defending religious freedom.
Protecting those who are persecuted for their faith. Uncovering corruption in the Washington bureaucracy and fighting to protect life in the courts and in Congress ACLJ would not be able to do any of this without your support for that. We are grateful. Now there's an opportunity for you to help me way time you can participate in the seal James matching challenge every dollar you donate $10 gift dollar gift becomes 100. This is a critical time for the ACLJ the work we simply would not occur without your generous take part in our matching challenge today make a difference in the protecting the constitutional and religious freedoms online ACLJ only one.
A society can agree that the most vulnerable invoice. Is there any hope for that culture to survive. And that's exactly what you are saying when you stand with the American Center for Law and Justice, defendant the right to life, we've created a free powerful publication offering a panoramic view of the ACLJ's battle for the unborn is called mission life will show you how you are personally publication includes a look at all major ACLJ Jesus fighting for the rights of pro-life activist the ramifications of Roe V Wade, 40 years later Planned Parenthood's role in the what Obama care means to discover the many ways your membership in the ACLJ is empowering the right to question your free copy of mission life today online ACLJ/Jay Sekulow everything here calls around that 11 he been holding those half hours. Let's go ahead take Sibley cc: in California and cc your on the air for taking my call. I really appreciate it thank you guys for your work and I woke up today and seen that we recently only impacting on negotiations are still going on for quite frustrating for Mike.
My question is this.
You know why I know that there is a ping-pong match going on out there on the hill and I just want to know how can they actually try to slip in money to be allocated to special interests when we have declared a national emergency going on President just read through all of this and use his powers of his office just allocate the money directly because we live in a constitutional republic and the person is controlled by the legislative branch of government, which is our constitutional design.
Now with the trust what they been trying to do is load up the many try to basically put the green new deal in this that got called out. They stopped at the bills now 1/3 of the size that it was Rossi's not going through it. I just got word by the way that churches may be able to apply for SBA loan guarantees as well so I guess all this is kind of just coming but understand something here cc and that is that the process is not over and until it is over and it's not over yet and absolutely because the House of Representatives still has the requirement not just the opportunity the requirement to pass the same language. They get sent to the President. So to answer the callers questioning that's how she could insert extraneous items, and she already did, jamming in her version of the bill.
There were literally pages and pages of totally unrelated provision.
So when this goes over the house. She has two choices really she could pass it as is and I think her chamber would do that by unanimous consent or she can open it back up and quite frankly she can try to insert just about anything she wants, but the only thing that would do is slow down the process but yet it's an article one power belongs to the house and the Senate jointly are very goes good and that we try to describe a very good question on Facebook out of the house at step after it's been voted on the Senate or the reconciliation process. That's how it happens, they gotta pass it to so would you not like since it wouldn't stay on this until it's done. It sounds like Don is Friday is probably the likely vote dates and working beyond this to make sure it's right on your behalf, behalf of our ACLJ members around the country were in stay on this I continue on phone calls is good April California line 6, April bottom how important the first part and a little uncomfortable living in that We are family of four in California and I can go the same way ethically ring around the I don't. As to that part I do not think so. I think these are general grants to help you get volume you still can apply you responsive loss of jobs unemployment insert, but don't forget that by the way unemployment insurance exists, you pay into that pain into that if you been working for years you been paying into that for years for such a time as this so you can always seek unemployment insurance.
Also, in addition to the supplement that's given if in fact most of you, you find yourself in that situation, but I don't think from what I gather that I don't think there's cost-of-living adjustments based on locale be very hard nowadays under not based on geography or cost of communal living IJ I think there is a balance here between us speed in order to get these checks out.
You have to make it print generic and then on the need side. I think that's where the expansion of an unemployment insurance text and another $600 a week.
If you are unemployed, lost her job after referral for four months in J that would be on top of the program that's arty in place of, there's a balance between those two things Avery had no party question 28, contacted how can reckon Cartwright you baby, I don't know the answer to that procedurally, but I would think, since the desire is to help families in their current situation that may be again. I don't know this to be some kind of format or Fort Worth orb system where you can do a notification but then we have any ID on that when it is rolling out well for sure, I can say for certain is that this is an item that was on the table being discussed, because the payments were to be based on 2018 filings by J.
Some of the drafts I've seen require you to file your 2019 taxes in order to get it. And so there would be a mechanism in the claimant in advance and improve it in 2019.
But the that the truth is day. I just don't know where they landed, something we don't know for sure but that they are look those are things that are being looked at.
Alyssa will put that on our list of things looking at things important to nontaxable calls.
Let's go to Rachel going online to Rachel. Welcome Irish Governor can't raise the abortion clinic that was still functioning in Jackson to client data in the current environment, and this morning they have defined his order had their still open their cars coming in from Alaska and Louisiana and Florida and be the next step that could happen with something like this when that orders the state Atty. Gen.'s office could file a motion for declaratory judgment to set it down on the challenge. The order is unconstitutional and they litigated very quickly in the course.
The only problem is this.
Courts are not really functioning, but they are functioning the sense like the Supreme Court is engaged in official business all out like I I'm drafting a reply brief in case of three cases involving present, so our briefs are due Friday so we will still file those electronically in the wall.
A lot of courts are not holding world by not holding oral arguments in courts so some most cases decided on break somewhere on motions.
Some of my doing it over the phone so that will be the state Atty. Gen. would take the next action. Thank you Rachel for calling I we are to be taken more of your phone calls.
So give us a call right now, the issue of fleshly lines 1 800 684 31 makes a for like the folks in the but I would collect the entertainment industry which is getting clobbered so what are they being told by like the Disney's of the world and the universals and in the hotels depends on the specific company in the specific brand. Some have plans for reopening slur tempting to try say hey don't worry in three weeks from now order try to soft. We reopen ideological conservative and in the presence of this year. It is not made to the pause so the people are concerned when they view the faucet turns back on.
It's not good to be outside. Everyone had to rush back out and is leaving concerns along among with consumers order to get what we been spending this long in isolation that we absent the work our way back into society. Work your way back in the going to restaurants worked way back into going at the entertainment industry mean other than people who have enough money in the lead people. You have a lot of staff a lot of crews being laid off.
Are these big tours I consider in the restaurant community here in the hotel industry or whatever it is summer salary sure. Take care, but a lot of people are involved, were given hey repave the next couple weeks is that these businesses they can afford to pay their crew thinned out on tour.
They can afford to pay it like a movie theater industry.
It's the same things happening right now were seeing the movies being released at home because he was a little odd as I was sitting there with my children. We watched the new Disney Pixar film onward. They released it at home two weeks after released in theaters. I was available at home. We returned it on a watch that can hit me midway through the movie of Alabama watches because every movie theater in the world right now slows down now in China and some the other place to start the reopen was missing. The curve starts. So things are starting to try to wheezing and was in the moving movie. I don't know I'm immersing across the world as some places are trying to reopen it were behind certain areas.
The country think world that the door probably.
I think to be tough. I think to be tough for the big events. As can be tough for any mass gathering of PDI due to close to each other, sitting next to each other.
I think mentally, we've almost built a block and I think to be hard to get people over that.
I hope we can quickly offer those industry sake and for a lot of these industries. They were arty on sort of the use of movie theaters, they become a switch love switch to that we serve food that we do this because we do have options like Netflix and those things right paying for very good thing. You have a pretty good at home system where you have a great TV a good sound system. I think the cost of going to the movies had affected people and now were saying. Though this could be a big issue for that me a lot of our courage and please when when we do reopen, please visit because I think there is that concern to which you can like you said the county wasn't meant to pause. We were meant to be in the situation and now you almost are giving people organ to be trained in thinking about not leaving yet now having to be untrained back to normal. It's it's not going to be an easy switch for a lot of people. Sam's ass then you the same question.
Like in your neighborhood or in Washington generally staffs are not really their right to me to bring you work with and it you live in and will in the Metro DC area. So what's it like right now for you. Yes, on Capitol Hill. There's virtually nobody on the streets. All of the all of the calls that have to do with work and all of the meetings are being done over, you know, either calls or or video conference calling a lot of that happening in my neighborhood J lot lot of people out on walks but certainly not the activity in the commerce areas that you're used to it.
I actually drove through what is usually a very busy busy thoroughfare last night and literally not a single person on the street so it's it's an unusual feeling.
No doubt it's just the nature of what it is. In the end of the church is in the faith-based groups are trying to be creative in using Facebook and other social media platforms which is great.
That's why we have secular communication we can highlight some of those for you that ACLJ work, but it's stuff that we really want general platform to for people who need it. Especially right now we churches are going be hit hard as well as supportive of the church still a lot of that marketing on. I think one of my friends. Pastor said hey, some of our people have said hey six euros of services on Sunday.
That must mean your bills are down.
Not quite how it works.
Not going to allow bills or their earnings on grounds of think about these things were to make decisions on where gift I will be taking phone calls in the next assignment last segment of the day. We appreciate you give us a call. That's at 1-800-684-3110 again 100-6431 10 was the only one.
A society can agree that the most vulnerable and is there any hope for that culture to survive. And that's exactly what you are saying when you stand with the American Center for Law and Justice, defendant the right to life, we've created a free powerful publication offering a panoramic view of the ACLJ's battle for the unborn. It's called mission life will show you how you were personally pro-life publication includes a look at all major ACLJ pro-life Jesus were fighting for the rights of pro-life activist ramifications 40 years later Planned Parenthood's role in the what Obama care means to the pro-life discover the many ways your membership in the is empowering the right to life question free copy mission life today online ACLJ/the American Center for Law and Justice were engaged in critical issues at home and abroad. Whether it's defending religious freedom. Protecting those who are persecuted for their faith. Uncovering corruption in the Washington bureaucracy fighting to protect life reports and in Congress. ACLJ would not be able to do any of this without your support for that. We are grateful. Now there's an opportunity for you to help me way limited time you can participate in the ACLJ's matching challenge every dollar you donate $10 gift gift becomes 100. This is a critical time for the ACLJ. The work we simply would not occur without your generous take part in our matching challenge make a difference in protecting the constitutional and religious freedoms gift today online ACLJ is Jay Sekulow. Let's go ahead and jump into the calls as good a leader who's going to New York online or leader your New York and you're the hello yesterday and I was really about what I heard about what close the quarter when I got off the line. I called the White House hotline can outline last night I got called you that without wife why Pres. when he had directed nation how to promote and support are doing. For instance, what you said about refurbishing the lax people know I was telling you that I'm 72. I don't twitter etc. etc. there are a lot of people that so much as I would like them to listen to you. Don't think that everything that out there fighting again their infighting. Let me know what is going on. In November there will be new people to Engage in careful balance then knows this. Politics is the art of the possible and negotiate so he has called out areas of this where he thought it was odd extreme and we thought was problematic. Like the group basically try sticking the green new deal, but he also has to work with them right now to get this done and that's part of what is having to deal with man, yet he tweeted about and that he would not sign a bill with a green new deal provisions in there and I will tell you that neither he nor his representatives are gentle about this in negotiations.
I can reassure the caller there is look here, the dynamic coming secretary munition is literally in the same room with leader Schumer and literate leader McConnell and they all have to walk out of that room saying that they agree on this package before I can move forward. So there has to be a balance here, you know, I don't think the President will ever be mistaken as someone who won't say what's on his mind. At the same time is secretary of the treasury has to be able to walk into that room with leader Schumer and then walk out of it with the deal. It appears like last night J they did that. So I think maybe he struck the right balance. Thank you very much for calling. Let's go ahead and move on to our next call you if you want your voice heard said a few lines open 100-684-3110 02 Jeff is calling a line when the cancer on their Jeff Hayden hi my main question was one. A bit money they're going to exit 9 days we have to pay it back as though this is a grant this point that is not Alani is a is a subsidy grant be now.
There may be business loans. For instance if we gotta do loans to companies. The government and loans to be a big company small companies. Those will be have to be structured payments but I'm sure that in the work the payments in such a way that innately ideas to get the country back to work in Kansas. Jeff, how are things going on your and their why were there. And we are very low molecular defendant Megan Bentley commercial vehicle device very slow right now. Yeah there's not a lot of private flight when a lifeline going on. That's when the accident she is very, very hard, by the way, is a big industry in United States, not just not just parts but actual aircraft manufacturing technology is a huge industry in United States. That's when it's an industry would gotta have.
I would take your calls and comments Facebook as well.
Let's keep going. The calls I Michael's calling California line 3 Michael on their yeah I think I might call my my question is been listening to all this stuff going on and I will be concerned with the fact that Nancy Pelosi keeps adding things to it.
Is there a possibility that going through this whole situation that they don't come to any kind of an agreement that this bill could you die and there being no rescue for the American people at all. I don't think the politics of the time, argue allow that and I just don't see it. Yeah, I agree with you. I think it would be politically extremely detrimental to say the least. To be to both parties, but there is no guarantee that it will happen today. Certainly, I made multiple chambers have to pass that I think politically, something will get done J. The question is when the idea and hopefully that wins no later than Friday minutes and that's our.
But that's our hope. As we continue to monitor this sticky boom. Let's go to Paul is calling in Maryland line 6 about people I take up with you and your ministry and your work takes a quick comment I'm 65 years old so maybe my memory is failing me but when that Obama care bill was being pushed through. It was like 3000 Nancy Pelosi this and we have to pass it we can find out what think that is exactly what she said said that you can find out what is so were not doing that and think and explain to you, and I think is important to understand especially those of you that financially support the American Center for Law and Justice so you understand exactly what were doing well I'll tell you two things. One will be a visual for those watching. These are the combined two bills that Nancy Pelosi introduced her the last 48 hours that we've been whoring all you hear.
I there is no way J that those who would been voting on those bills would have known what was in it. When they passed us of the soundbite about having to pass it to know what is in it would definitely have been applicable to this bill and unfortunately that's not true.
We are going through the new bill as we speak so you know I don't know what time they're gonna vote on it today. Hopefully we will have at least been through it by then, but I will tell you a lot of what was in those bills that Nancy Pelosi introduced the reason that there out is because we were pouring through them so the risk is real in the Pelosi soundbite is very valid, but J that's one of the reasons that we exist and were still operational so we can flag these provisions and we can get them removed and I think look this is the job of the American Center for Law and Justice. We got it team on this in the that team will be on it until this bill is passed, but I do feel like this is gonna happen by Friday and that will be relief to the American people, which is desperately needed. Your loving you mentioned some of the industries that you're involved in, but I'd I talked to some friends of mine with law firms in Manhattan. This is a New York City and it's come to a standstill and we have a color come in and look for flask holidays, who lives in California. It's about business on Ursula's welcome politically small small contractor and we don't have really any income coming in right now but we are now self-employed. Is there anything in the packages are back at the people. Yes, the ideas the package is not just designed for elbowing out her other big companies are Delta. It's designed to help small businesses so you can be back in business or stay in business soap and that's kind of the threshold issue for the for the bill itself is actually helping small businesses. That's one on a vision yeah one of the main provisions of the bill $367 billion. Reportedly for small business loans and J under most of these drafts will confirm that it's true in this one.
If a small business like the one the callers talking about maintains payroll for a certain amount of time, usually 6 to 8 weeks, then those loans don't have to be repaid so there some administration here BF $367 billion for small businesses that won't have to be repaid. If you keep your employees on and continue to be very relevant for people to hear this for the proposal is $367 billion in and loans to small businesses qualifying small businesses, but they are loans, but J under every proposal I've seen will go through this one to confirm if you make if you continue to make payroll. If you don't lay people off.
If you use those funds to keep your employees, you won't have to repay that loan. Yes, I'm basically a debt forgiveness program is a stimulus to keep the economy going right that does it for the broadcast today.
