Questions today on Jay Sekulow on live from Washington DC Judy sent you a line phone lines with your questions right now: 1-800-684-3110.
That's 1-800-684-3110 and now your host secular Jay Sekulow library to be taking your calls to your questions.
October the sponsor that the stimulus legislation. Lot of folks got a lot of questions about how this impacts them how it impacts their small business how to pack their church, how it impacts them individually. Now, as these systems are going live tried to again answer your questions because I think everyone of these questions that we answer probably thousands of people have the same question who are listening to the show and there benefiting from you who call in with these questions really talk about that today that really let people understand what Congress and the President has done for them to try to provide relief during such an uncertain time. Economically, a lot of things we want to accomplish in and really want to do here and this is a big part of what were doing is worth putting a lot of time answering questions because legislations can be confusing announcing it's going into effect and people start to see the benefit of it and there may be another one, we that we may be faced where you may need to be. So we want to make that as an available resource to our members from around the country. The people are: with knees were trying to to answer those questions forthright look that we we spent time last week talking about politics that up some of this, but today were really focusing on the questions that you have in fact for most of this week we are going to be going right into Good Friday out we are going to be focusing on questions that you all have asked because I think it's good information to get out to the American people right now and obviously you know hopefully will be any kind of clanks and you know there could be, but I do feel like more than I do feel like the government is really ready deliver on this when I can have like that Obama care meltdown.
We had during the rollout of Obama care, that would certainly not be very good and so far, doesn't there be happening now, but again people are just going to be. I think people are also going to just still our understanding what they could qualify for and I I've see this in the past through these let this legend kind of legislation where a lot of people who were qualified for relief and needed it didn't take it because they didn't know they were qualified or didn't know how it would be available to them. So what were to try to do through this broadcast is make sure you know what you could be eligible for and remember this is this is your dollars taxpayer dollars that are coming to save your business save your employees save yourself in some cases, make sure you can pay your bills and you are entitled to them as the American if you qualified, so you should do everything possible to check to see if you are that some of the baseline numbers are pretty easy. We'll talk about that about who's qualified who's not for the stimulus checks. Those are pretty easy for the extended unemployment that assisted deployment out of limits. Very broad doubt and it's over people who bathe out of qualified a week and 1/2 ago. You may now fight now. So where to answer all that out for you because we know so we questions that have been coming into the broadcast. And I know for every single person who has that question who gets on the air. They were answer get for 10,000 or 20,000 more pavements who didn't get on the radio broadcast or who by now know hey that relief could be available to be looked so we want to provide this is a service to you so I know this week.
The numbers of fatalities are going to go up every day and rather than in your getting that from a lot of new sources but I really think what we think we need to do this week is answer your questions that were lawyers, government affairs folks were not medical doctors obviously were praying for better outcomes and in less fatalities and as we did last week and upright, but we really want to spend the week. I wanted to two things this week answers many questions we can answer where to place some of the broadcast that we previously done that answer some of these questions were in a public place of the interview from some of the government leaders to so you can hear from them what they're doing. So there's some encouragement out here in what is going to be a very difficult difficult week and we encourage as well as always to stay updated with us in ACLJ.or that's ACLJ.or I stay up there with all the cases all the work we've got going on that's ACLJ.or will be right back on Jay Sekulow live is a critical time for our nation and our world with so many challenges facing our country. Every dollar makes a difference stand with the ACLJ today so online ACLJ was RT work through the night to make sure we could report your Jay Sekulow live exactly what was in this and how to fix you most directly to about starting those phone calls of that. Then there's also point we want to make sure about is a people to hear about this from states and to hear back from Cuomo that kind of politicizing this a little bit as well. There's a lot of of this resources available to states within this stimulus package. Explain to people what what you were just going through through art through a messenger. Yet a lot of credit to be insisting one of our attorneys here who's pouring through this is putting a lot of midnight hours.
She just texted me Jordan at page 600 of this bill out loud lines had at hundred $50 billion will be distributed every state has to get at least $1.25 billion of that, so that's the first 62 1/2 billion dollars Jordan, that leaves $87.5 billion to be distributed in a formulaic manner.
So, New York City, New York the state of New York is going to do very well. Inside at 87 1/2 billion dollars because they have the greatest need as they should.
So again, I would just say to Gov. Cuomo. Instead of spending time complaining about what you automatically get you to be going in and applying for the most of that 87.5 that you can get go look it up. Page 600 of the bill lays it out.
Every state has to get at least 1.25 but after that it's competitive and it's formulaic telescope right to the foes jail in Kentucky online 3G welcome to Jay Sekulow login on the air I mention I have supported you on the path. Thank you, but extremely hard.
Now I have to go on disability which brings me to my question. You have any information on sewer on disability leave and even thinking so I think it's based on the formula of this first law even if you receive Social Security. We ought or pay little to no taxes.
We know you can receive this so it's ideas based on the formula stand and this will we go off of that in less your your disability is for individuals over somehow.
$75,000 a year. And even if you would get something still up to a certain point or hundred 50,000 if you were both unemployed, which is unlikely, so you will be eligible for this you hundred percent correct. Now we wouldn't want to tell everybody. Obviously you want to consult your tax professional or your CPA for your individual situation but yet Jordan same as Social Security. It it does count as income.
It always has. Again, just listening a call.
I think it's very unlikely that she's reaching that phase out phase and she should expect to get the full amount of check, assuming everything else is as it appears we can answer people. Where is that phase out phase will kinda come down fan wears a come down around well. So for an individual starts phasing out at 75,000 of adjusted gross income for a married couple hundred 50,000 Jordan it's it's phase it's literally your your rebate drops five dollars for every hundred dollars of income on top of that, and everyone who makes up to 99,000 as an individual adjusted gross income or 198,000 if you're married couple will get something if you make over that level. Jim Jordan 99,000 for an individual or one 98,000 for married couple anybody above that won't get a check at all, but anybody at that still will get shame.
That's a significant amount of of the middle class in the United States of America people making a most hundred thousand dollars years individuals or almost $200,000 years. A couple any so I will get something still so you'll just get the full amount of the 1200 of the 2400, but you will still be getting something which is, in fact, is to make sure that we keep our you would be in this position. I think you forgot that to use that to keep the to keep the economy moving it on to keep spending it it if you can and then for those who are more concerned about paying their bills to hold onto the money while you can embed and make sure member to that you may be getting that on top of workforce with questions about that as well. I was going to Meredith in Michigan on line 6 Meredith, welcome to Jay Sekulow live hey Meredith, you're on the air.
Hey, what's your question well all manager works in an accounting in Michigan that is a twitter account. I am telling I went blank security disability.
No unemployment. I'm sorry and so I ended fan.
I will be getting this unemployment plus the 600 and I nearly broke my sense because people who are not working that out in the workforce and prone to get this. They are going to be getting double of what he's making and working and being out in the wrong but your son if he is making $75,000 year or less. And he's not married I will be getting the full $1200.
The full $1200 check your husband that you talk. They were so grocery store it in less you got you all have a combined Greg Russo get you to getting the $2400 so I think that that's that's key that again for you.
Unless you're making adjusted gross income of 150,000 Osborne you not with unemployment likely in that position so you still be getting those those checks on top of your salary.
So it's I could take away from your salary, you're still going to your son still good to get that check it out if he's married or not, so might be 1200 might be 2400 and your husband is as well and and again likely that'll be 2400 because you're married so thin. I think I'm correct on that now there is that issue about the $600 explained that the people yes so there's a couple things at play here. First of all, there's the stimulus check would you actual accurately describe Jordan everybody described in that situation would be getting that check and then there's the expanded unemployment insurance benefits, which obviously only someone who lost their job would get in Jordan. There was some concern specifically on the Republican side of the aisle that there might be some very narrow circumstances, you were someone who loses their job temporarily gets a little bit more than someone who keeps their job in Jordan that's not ideal.
It is gonna happen in a couple places that I would just make this plea to Meredith and anyone else listening the ability to retain your job is far more valuable than just for a few weeks or a few months getting a few more dollars in your get the other side of this.
You still have your job, so it's not perfect.
Some of these things are going to happen, but I would just say that your son's job.
I think it was your son, that's more valuable than a few more dollars and salinity right now be having one of those jobs is key play places or to stay open throughout this depending on where it regardless of where you are in the country to the states with the most restrictions. Those jobs are still people are keeping those jobs and probably to be working more hours the date they were if they want to but I do think it's also key to point out that within this is encouragement there that if your business starts applying for any of these loads.
You've got to keep your employees on payroll so that that I do that again. It limits that idea of people going on unemployment and then somehow making more than they were before.
That might be for a few people but for the vast majority the way this works is to encourages businesses to save you want this. Just keep your business alive. You can't start firing all your employees yet because that's really the goal is in a Jordan we want to keep people in their jobs said that the economy can restart again. You don't want to claim unemployment insurance if they don't have to. In the first place. So $349 billion of that small business section, the total section is 377,000,000,300 $49 billion is available to what are initially loans to small businesses during the only way they get those loans forgiven, at least the qualifying expenses is if they maintain payroll if they keep employees on their payroll for the duration of this. If that happens, Jordan, those are no longer loans. Those are grants. They do not have to pay them back.
So going back to Merritt's call. I think what it will mean is her son will actually keep her to his job through this and that's really what the incentive and with the bottom line goal was in the first place. Gary from Colorado interesting question. Line 1 Gary welcome to Jay Sekulow live of the air might call a question on the small business owner, here incorporating operating of the full proprietor and I don't have any employees but I've lost probably close to almost $2000 in volume and climbing as this continues on with everything being shut down, but I wanted to find out just the general idea of or clarification are left alone is going be for small businesses in all people have employees or the logos is that only repayable you know, if you don't have employees reading Gary's.
This is not just for our payroll.
It's money spent on rent, utilities and then these these actually turn into grants that don't need to be paid back as long as you don't try to deny it in your situation would be firing people so they that's how I read it is that as sole proprietor would would still be eligible if they needed for these loans because it also applies for things like if they need utility payments, they can't make or or rent they can't make it's it's not just about payroll yet that's correct he can find the definitions of who's eligible in the first place. On pages 10 and 14.
If you want to know what if that is forgivable. Not all of it will be not all lost revenue will be the Jordan. All of the things you mentioned, rent, mortgage, payroll, utilities, all of those things are eligible to convert the grant so there you go. Gary hope that answer for you can go right to the legislation we give you the page numbers even on that. So I again that's how much work we have done the ACLJ working all night Siu connection give you the page numbers of an 800+ page stimulus bill.
The biggest history you can go to to find out how it affects you. 1-800-684-3110 will be right back on Jay Sekulow line for 30 years the American Center for Law and Justice has been dedicated to protecting your religious and constitutional freedoms because of you. We've seen great success in the courts and Congress concerning the issues that matter most to you and your families ACLJ, chief counsel Jay Sekulow are decades long commitment to the Constitution and the rule of law is at the center of everything we do.
The bottom line could not take place without your generous support of uncertainty ACLJ consider making a gift online safe and secure to work enabling the ACLJ the battle against abortion giant Planned Parenthood to protect Christians facing persecution, much more. Every dollar makes a difference stand with the ACLJ today so online and sealed is a critical time for our nation and our world with so many challenges facing our country. The work of the American Center for Law and Justice is never been more important during this time of uncertainty. There's no better way to support the ACLJ then through online giving ACLJ chief counsel Jay Sekulow we truly appreciate your financial support without it would be impossible to do our work here and around the globe in the best way to support our work is to make your financial gifts online ACLJ.org online giving simple and secure, and by making it online. Give your support goes to work immediately, enabling the ACLJ to defend human life to stand up for our good friend Israel worked to uncover the corrupt state of Washington, and so much more. Make a difference today support the work of the acljonline@aclj.org every dollar makes a difference today online AC okay to return explained the legislation that could benefit the each of you the listing right now, but it will be different for every person so would we answer a question that will necessarily apply to you and were basing it off, trusting what people are telling us is accurate. So again you don't you not listen to this is a wired of the racial sublimate this loan, you still need to go to tax professionals so that you make sure stretching your small business owner individually for this to make sure that again you're putting out the right information you were trusting you are at with BRCA treaties like hypotheticals you need to take this seriously because these funds are going to be available very soon fan. I mean they're going to try to get this out to people as soon as possible so people need to be ready to take it seriously but were trying to answer it as dearly as possible so that people know and I think for most of the listeners out there unless you know you're making you know more than the. The hundred and $98,000 a year as a couple of more than a hot $99,000 years individual that you should probably be getting something maybe not the full $1200. The individual or the full $24 as a married couple, but something from the federal government, and for that check if your small business owner and you have a troublemaking payroll rate or or mortgage you should be eligible for some of these funds as well. They could actually turn into not just Lowe's but actually grants the don't have to be paid back for some parts of it. Let's get back to phone calls answers because we can't dotted Arizona if she question lied to Donna welcome to Jay Sekulow live you on the air might call quick 20 year old living at home that filed your taxes in 2018 2019 individually not dependent on your parent And you are on your parent insurance lot amount as stimulus check while they received 1200 or 600 C 1200. That's where I would go to just based off the broad language of how this was written because he's not a dependent child is not a dependent. So you wouldn't get just the credit there. Of the five that the $500 credit of independent he's paying his own taxes should be based off how much she's how much is a great adjusted gross income is but for 20-year-old.
I guess he's probably not over the $75,000 a year so it would probably be eligible for the full 1200. Now what's key is that you would not be because of that you would not get the $500 because he is not a dependent surrogate were answer these based off the facts you're giving us the language that we've got in front of us but but I hope that clears it up for you to as well as he is very interesting because the people are lots of different unique situations right now. Michael California and what is unique situations by cooperative Jay Sekulow live your on the air and for taking my call. Yeah a very unique I was on disability in the areas I'm back to work in January and all of a sudden after last week. My contract wasn't renewed, and I'm out of work again. I applied for unemployment. They should all you don't qualify unit work in the right place. As anything special is there.
There is language in this legislation to plug these holes, then that is the key to peep for people like Michael Got back into the workforce and they lost their job and maybe under the old way of looking at things, has it been unemployed long enough now you're getting it wanted to check if you if I don't if you're married or not Michael but either $1200, a $2400 and I think that is good at this. There's plugs in here because it's been expanded so Michael you need to go back to the again to the unemployment office and make sure because first check again because that's been expanded unemployment benefits and who is eligible for unemployment but also because of these new loads that are to be available. The business may be ready to rehire yeah that's the point I would make your and I deftly think you should check again to see if that the expansions cover him, but there are incentives if the offender if the business is willing to hire back an employee that they laid off because of this, Jordan, that would be eligible under the provisions of this term.
As long as they meet the other ones on the key payroll up and do the other things. Then they would be able to count that employee employee that was rehired in their tabulation so I would just I would just check on both fronts check and see if the expanded unemployment insurance covers you but also maybe go back to your employer and say given this expansion might you be willing to hire me back.
All right, let's keep going through the phone calls 164 3110 is best we can. Karen in Maryland online five welcome to Jay Sekulow live your on the air for taking my call.
We filed in 2018, and we kept it would a very odd year because of a small inheritance we received and I didn't say they've been saying all along that they were going to use 2018 data I haven't filed the 2019. Return jet but we definitely qualify under 2019 rules and what I'm wondering is if I run out and didn't end electronically filed today will they use the 2019 data well since some of this is based off again. I would talk to tax professional.
This with his interesting question that usually would've qualified you got this inheritance last year you course filed your taxes for 2018.
And that's what we would be based on.
If you haven't filed for 2019. But then there's probably cut off point in this for peep for when people filed their 2019 tax returns. Is it at that. The time the bill is passed or is it is that debt bed backdated or secure just pick up the phone right now and then talk to a tax professional actually can answer that question pretty quickly.
For yet. They probably could've the truth is door and we don't know yet and we won't know until treasury gets the guidelines out. I suspect they I suspect the deadline isn't here yet but that is a pure guest adorned the other thing I would say is don't panic too much, because this is a refundable tax credit. So even in a situation like this.
It might mean that you don't get it right away which I know is not ideal, but it's still gonna balance out when you file file your 2020 credits you could still apply it at that point and it would still be fully refundable. So there you go. I can't have in your unique situation rely unique situation for one year. If you would usually always qualified for pick up the phone call tax professional it and figured out but remember were trying to broadly explain to people what is in this and the bad stuff that sounded as well. We talked about that you know Pelosi did not get the vague slush fund that would've allowed the abortion industry bailout should get the corporate board diversity should get the green new deal type provisions that she did get bills subsidizing retirement plans for community newspaper employees should get the minimum wage increase of federal been wage. She didn't create this new page should read all the stuff that had nothing to do like alternative energy with combating the corona virus should get any of that. So I get big victories there than when it comes this legislation and let me tell you folks if we would all just shut off but the solid replay had our staff all go you know just everybody kind of goal tried work from home to do what you can get working around the clock to get info to legislators to make sure they know what they're voting on to make sure were informing you about what is being voted on how it will affect you how it will affect the issues you care about leading your support right now, folks, this important month for us as a matching challenge, but we really encourage you to donate online. Now for like a day and 1/2.
That's right, in our buddy John Rich return John welcome back. Thanks gasket be back with John, you've dropped the news and we are excited to share with our audience and around the world.
Why don't you give us a little bit of a set up here for why decide for is bigger Rich Saunders as John Rich on this a bit and write some old floor bag and rinse music that we know a guy.
It states that the parties you know I think me and Kenny. As always, brought the fun party. You look back at our our career music in their spare serious sounds and Amber Tanner say horse ride a cowboy comedy or sitting fun stuff like that and I will sit around in the house like everybody else in and on my kids are downstairs homeschooling and my wife's: I don't know what this assignment is even like you got cousins going the extra toilet paper were to lay out none of the stores at any hand sanitizer. You know what he got in. I know those conversations are happening in literally every house in America so I sent I got write a song about this because too many. Yes, it's a terribly serious situation.
Obviously, but the flip side of it is you look at just some of the absurdity of what's going on right now in your house and how long this is going to be going on so we got a house, relief from that. So I wrote this silly little song called staying home. I saw the President on TV going. I just want all Americans to stay the day have no role in this together. Stay home.
He kept saying that I went okay.
That's destined public service announcement for America is elected right so I started right now as the song staying home. I wrote the chorus and I was laughing so hard at my own chorus is that I got a call somebody and sing this to see if it's as funny as I think it is so on-call that my buddy Charlie and my buddy TJ and I called Larry Gatlin you have a nice is one of the silliest craziest Gazan in town.
The guys in the world and when I got them all on a conference call late the following on my bar and about 42 minutes. The four of us had finished writing the song staying home all that Kenny Kenny rolled out of his chair laughing so hard he said we got record this now.
So how do you record a big and Rich Solomon recorded as we got the tracks down. We were send in files to HR players and drummers in basement and put it all together and then I sing my part that shot over Kenny. He sang his part that we next it and yes it's coming out nationwide.
Stay home and tame as needed.
Right now I think there's a lot of people who are striving for really needs of the did Teresa take that might offer even to just lather the situation at hand. And I do think it's cool and influencing this now with some musicians is due to all the live streams and you did one just the other night on enough oxidation. Musicians are like perfectly set up for this. Could you guys all have recording equipment. You know how to do it. If it sounds like I can't right now go make a movie if I want to make a movie at like Bussard, I don't have the 40 million bucks. I don't have 20 guys at the camera crew and the whole thing but for musicians you can do that you have the opportunity and it would seem that we think will start cranking out new music and release stuff fast and I think we need right now such as that. That's relevant because we are just you watch a lot of stuff, you watch a lot of TV with your family go.
Oh yeah, that was all done before the court to my son.
I watched one of my dad's performance is either the bed he does on years of this was before the coronavirus because there altogether.
Nothing yet and that was hit with this seven-year-old, you know. And that goes out well okay so that's a serious subject, but I like the relation something then that honestly could be relevant to them to everyone because were all well dealing with this and it is wrapped around Christmas time. You have silent night. And you also have grandma got run over by a reindeer. I have about so I stay home is not grandma got about a reindeer right now that is perfect for our audience. We go ahead and as you go and play it well yeah let's roll it all right here it is. Stay home by bigger Rich say they know now you all day. You can straighten down the home schools now a day and now all day may never in my last day in and day to day day. No, now all in and in and in and in and their lives. John congratulations very good. You just give a golf club out of my hand to touch each other. I think that's not allowed to touch your own is not other people in my head like peeling off an image in there is a tragic news. I was a passing of a country music icon, the legislative approval who grew up in the 90s like we did in in our generation. I would Joe did you pass away from complications from covered. 19 for the coronavirus, but I saw your post yesterday Johnson when you consider the mentor so I just wanted to get your overall thoughts in this is not always on time for America. But I see now it's gonna be heading home yet was very very sad to hear about Joe. Diffie is a huge loss to country music and talk about. He was mentor style guy what he was even Gazan girls never met him in country music would call Joe dancy a mentor because the level of talent the man had and the kind of music he put out for such a long period of time. It stands the test of time. Let you go I do not you talk also about the pursuit which is something that you're stuck at home jobs are is a great thing to binge watch it on Fox nation tells about that. So the pursuit that that's my share with Fox nation it it's based on the sign that said for many years, which is our country doesn't guarantee his happiness and guarantees us the right to pursue happiness and the fact that were allowed to pursue happiness should inherently make this happen because were the only country in the world and the history of the world that actually has a right to pursue happiness. So I sit down.
People from all different backgrounds. I don't care about the politics. I don't care what they would have his care that they are American dream chasers and so I met some pretty incredible people come right here the house and I sit them down and we do a deep dive on their story how did it start what you run into where you at now.
It's a very inspiring staff.
It's funny, I know a lot of these people personally and have some stories with them, but you know I think you can probably put that same exact thing to what were doing what's right now with this coronavirus and you know for me as a songwriter. What makes me happy. Write new songs you know I can't be right on search that makes me happy but I can't do those like running my business downtown Brendan premier can't do that right now. So what can I do. Well, I've still got a pencil and a piece of paper in his guitar of their the corner.
I'll see if I can write a new song that's what makes me happy. That's my pursuit of happiness and what you know I write this silly little song stay home and masking plate coast-to-coast and there you go. I think the lesson is that no matter how how much your shutdown on the one thing you can do the one thing you can control whether that's what you're eating how your exercising what you going with your kids or write something down or are learning. Learning about something you always want to learn about take advantage of it and continue to pursue your happiness and your Fox nation.com. You can watch my show. We may even extend the broadcast logger so that we can take your phone call so hang on the line. We've got a very special guest Julius right now. Sure the broadcast for JB because he is the state auditor of West Virginia statewide elected official is poorly and that the state House of delegates in West Virginia and we have been trying through this week. Yesterday was a Florida estate official today West Virginia. These are friends of ours, and at some of them of work for the ACLJ before five. JB has and before he started out his career in that it West Virginia but I wanted to bring JB today to talk about what it's been like world radioed West Virginia and just so you are listening around the country so much focus on California, New York, Florida, what's happening around the country.
JB thanks for Geordie estate for taking time out of your day to be on the air with us really JB first West Virginia is been one of the states. That was so got the testing later so the numbers are still pretty low. I was look at the CDC website. It's under 100.
I think right now, but maybe that's change right right out looks like it was under the cap for the tires to outs at 162 for the entire state of people have been diagnosed, but they've said that.
And I don't toward your mouth, but is that because of testing this just kinda starting right now. I think it, and equipping our state government react very quickly to we started I think pretty early and it West Virginia have been very reactive and supportive of both because we have up.
What is a combination of a unique set of I think advantages and a unique set of extreme challenges that we are naturally socially distant here, maybe more than anywhere else, and I do think that when this is over working to see a giant outmigration from urban areas to places like West Virginia where you can avoid people pretty easily and so we have that general advantage that we are distanced further from people in general, but the other problem we have is that we are older and sicker than most other states. Maybe the we might be the oldest. It's very close so it if we were to have a giant spike. If this were to get really bad year, it would be catastrophic.
So we have to week we are.
We should be commended in my thing, and for quick action because we are we had a chance to probably take less action and avoid it. But people are very concerned for their for their elderly friends and neighbors are doing a wonderful job of staying home and wash their JB district for someone to probably argues that the ACLJ alumni holding a statewide office in West Virginia make us very proud. I'm glad you're involved in this relief effort. You mentioned about the elderly need to have an older population similar situation on Florida with a population is generally older so that gives you a unique challenge.
How do you feel the state government is equipped about the medical hospitals in the communities, especially in the rural areas with where where this could be you know again I metal think there's been some indiscriminate virus. Obviously, how how things look in the medical community. So again was uniquely troublesome here so we have two small rural hospitals that have just recently closed and our state officials with Sen.. It's so intense that it eventually leading the way, have been working to try to get them reopened to try to find buyers for them because this is the end of the last time on earth. We need less bet right right and so the thing that is really concerning to me is that as weak and elective procedures that for hospitals, especially in the new healthcare make money and so were starting to see layoffs of healthcare workers who are specifically designed to work in either respiratory or emergency situations because the hospitals are bringing in the income from me hip replacement knee replacement them and the elective things like that are not part of this of the scenario, so I think that's going to be at a big problem going forward responsibly. JB said is is is really important. What would good family quickly on this and that is, he said, Sen. O Sen. mansion working together, which is what you need, especially the time of crisis to get something done when I see a lot of that they believe JB is giving us a little help it. It's their job. J. I mean look as a Republican and a Democrat doing their job to connect the federal government to their constituents in a time of need, and I would just respectfully again suggest that every senator, every member of Congress should be focused almost exclusively on that day, until the drafting face for this really this is their only job so I JB to give people some insight into West Virginia have a lot of people probably visits a beautiful state and any talk about the mountains.
They talk about the idea that the isolation from there's not a lot of major cities. But, and this with schools closing down.
Sure but that many did tell this to unique challenges because of the demographics of the state of the rural hospitals, events, or the lack of them. So what is the concern that it you know if this were to start because as we seen in other states westward. It is probably one of those. It will be later than these other peaks. Whatever does peak and maybe will be a lower peak in West Virginia would brave it is. But if it does speak that can West Virginia be prepared at time we are prepared and I think that because we started early and I believe the most recent data we have is our peak at May 1 is the day and so they moved our election that our election is been moved six weeks that happened yesterday.
The governor and our Secretary of State decided that that was the safest thing to do so. Election is been moved back into June and I believe there they're talking about closing schools and the rest of the year today. Are we prepared. I don't think anybody's really prepare one Mike Tyson always said that everyone got a plan to get punched in the mouth and this is this is the perfect scenario for that right like everybody thinks they have a plan for these things. But what you really got to do with quarter shoulders back, make quick decisions. Be decisive in and live with them and then and then move on to the next day and I think we have a really unique set of people here that are willing to be leaders to take decisive action and fix problems as they happen.
JB we received join us on the broadcast today. I think the note variously learning from talking the state officials is interesting because were learning like his. JB said they first got the change that is where the peak in West Virginia. That's a lot different than New York or you want to talk to that in a nationally we also JB letting us know the elections being moved it West Virginia ISO IV JB just it as the final messages you're talking to folks around the country, but to develop commercial data as well. What is your message to folks who elicited from West Virginia right now. The first thing that I would say that what we are doing is working and we are presented, and Dr. felt he said that the other that that was phenomenal. We have is an energy from a virus that is trying to change our world but is being met with an energy from our society that's trying to fight back. And so our energy needs to be larger and stronger than the other, energetically everything in this world work so we need to be tougher and stronger and have better will than the virus has my think that America has proven time and again that that's who we are and we've never fail before this is going to be the first time we fail, we are months away from being at the end of this thing and we get out of it wast America get a come back. We always do. That is the history of our country. We need to lean on our shared past and understand that overcoming obstacles is who we are at the nation.
And that's what were to do here and speculation, and much less importantly, from the auditors office standpoint.
The one thing worth finding is that everyone's looking for masks and gloves right and so we are cast as financial officers of the state to try to buy these things. There is an enormous amount of black-market fraud happening and having your day yesterday to reality, we heard that yesterday before Florida official same job, who also went to school with us at GW ads and and again he was time at the front, so it is is real and you know what you confirm that for people. We got 30 seconds here, but is fraud that you're dealing with on the black market for these these goods are often had to wrap up all of our fraud simply because by monitoring and buying things in a risky environment that are needed in a) JB we appreciated say daughter from West Virginia alumni. The ACLJ. Friend of ours, her longtime friend George thanks David.
