It's one of America's most important, influential and respected voices on cultural and political issues and apologist first political advocate and author. Here is the founder and assuming the America foundation, Dr. Chris, as usual, Christian perspective in God's word in order to develop a Christian worldview in modern culture is different yesterday, but our first guest is going to talk to us about the booster shot you still a big issue for two years in the coven. First we were told if we social distance would be okay. They were told we were mask will be okay. Then a vaccine was developed and we were told if we take the vaccine.
It will be okay. Then we were told well if you take the vaccine you're still going is sick but maybe not as sick as before. Now there's a big push to have boosters.
Some of the vaccines have one shot the ones in the governments pushing have two shots and then to get a booster and sometimes you're encouraged to get even two or three or more boosters was all very confusing to me and little country boy that I am.
I don't know what shot. I should get what booster should I get how often do you get it, and how does it help so we have yesterday with SR guest his home and used home in studies of the bloom.
Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. She studying microbiology and immunology. If I get that correctly. We've asked her to come today with her scientific mind and to tell us a little bit about what's going on, you know, I want you to have a comfort level.
I'm certainly not for vaccine mandates but if you want to vaccine you should get one if you don't I'm not to get mad at you if you don't, but we need to understand the science behind these are different kinds of shots and what were doing what our doing so, use welcome to the Christian perspective hi, thank you so much for having me warm excited to have you here today before I get into boosters that want to back up just a little bit.
Can you explain to us what a covert virus is versus how is it different from the flu. Okay, so the flu is a different type of virus than what coronavirus is on the biggest thing that we've noticed with coronavirus is that there are a lot of the bodies immune responses that are really hyper activated when responding to the coronavirus. So while some people may have asymptomatic cases and the flu.
I feel like is more standardized. You know what you can get with the flow.
You know what you can expect that with coronavirus. A lot of people are coming in and they may seem asymptomatic for a while and Mikey undetected in the body and the next thing you know there's all these immune responses that are really heightened to have permanent long-lasting effects and can be deadly so you mentioned the word asymptomatic a couple times a people here that all news is asymptomatic me so generally asymptomatic means that you don't have runny nose that you would expect that you normally see that says Pam sick or the sore throat or something that would tell you that I am not doing too well. I'm sick. My body has a virus. You may have the virus and you would not be showing any considered traditional sickness symptoms were somebody could have coronavirus but they would not necessarily be 60 though the symptoms show and that's where someone when they take the says that it says are asymptomatic. That's what it's referring to that they wouldn't be in a traditional sense sick. But that's one thing that's so interesting about this pandemic is it's really changing the definition of what is it mean to be sick does sick mean that you have to not feel sick mean that you just have something that you could spread to other people that would make them not feel well so that something we really having to redefine public health is what is sick me okay so we we've talked about what covert is and then under the Trump administration. They developed a vaccine and they had this big push to develop it. I think it's called operation warp speed. So before we talk about a booster what is a vaccine. The purpose of vaccine. What is a vaccine so the major purpose of any vaccine is to give your body a memory response. So the next time your body encounters that virus that bacteria or whatever that booster with a vaccine is preventing against the body will be able to recognize that that's not supposed to be here. We need to mount an immune response to get rid of that before it results in serious disease or sickness symptoms. So by vaccinating and introducing some properties whether it be the outside of where prep left of virus our backs.
Our bacteria looks like or some type of other protein or something that goes into your body that we are immune system can recognize it and it can destroy it before it's able to propagate and cause disease. So the idea the vaccine is not given to someone who sick, that would be different medicine they would take with this is kind of a preventive medicine that someone takes before they get coven 19 or whatever the sickness may be, but in the past, people have thought will if I take the vaccine for polio or for the mom's or whatever German measles people believe that they would never get sick if they took that vaccine, but that is not happen here. Why so first, I'd like to go back to something you said about vaccines or preventative is actually two different types of vaccines there preventative vaccines and there's also therapeutic vaccines. So some vaccines are actually meant to be given after you've already contracted disease and I believe I may be wrong but I believe that rabies is one of those vaccines you don't get a rabies vaccine until you've already contracted rabies and that's therapeutic but with coven the mindset is to have different predict tentative vaccines now there is this misconception that a vaccine will prevent you from being able to get a virus but with coated with coronavirus. What a lot of people have seen is that you can have the vaccine and it can prevent serious symptoms of sickness, but you might still be able to transmit that illness, that virus to somebody else.
So just because you're vaccinated doesn't mean that you can't contract coven. You can't have coven symptoms just means that your symptoms are not to be serious because your immune system has that little alarm system that can tell your body hey there something wrong with that little bit of edge to be quicker and prevent serious disease.
Okay, so somebody takes a backseat and just as a preventative method method of some people be required by the work of the federal government or whatever if they take a vaccine while the world do they need a booster shot and what is so the idea behind a booster shot is that for some viruses and some other forms of disease causing ailments, your antibody response is limited so for viruses such as the polio virus. The average life time span of that memory that you get from a vaccine is over 100 years.
Sometimes, and so for that one year only to get vaccinated against it.
Once but with viruses such as the influenza virus, which is the flu or such as coronavirus. There are so many different mutations within the viruses that sometimes you have to get booster shots in order to be more prepared because your antibody switches that memory response declines over time. So you have to constantly give your in your memory response a little bit of a boost. So that way can have more of kind of endurance. So if you think about it, like a race you're running down this race and sometimes you need a little extra snack bar something to get you going to that finish line. Just because your bike been depleted, even though you carb loading before the race.
So this is kind like that little snack bar to give your immune system a little bit more of a boost so that he can push further and get faster toward the end was really good way to put it out of her way so if it's giving us a boost is, is it giving a boost to what we've already had her so here we are now two years into this and we we have the original coronavirus.
We have at least the Delta variate and now the omicron where there could be others out there that I don't know about the boosters addressing these variants as well or just boosting what we've already tried to prevent against the original box so that's a very good point that you bring up and not something that a lot of people in public health and medicine are kind of conflicted about because omicron has approximately 50 new mutations to the virus that were not present in the original coronavirus and the vaccines are based off of the original coronavirus and what's even more interesting is out of those 50 mutations 36 of those mutations are on the spike protein and the spike protein is what's important for the virus to enter your body.
So the virus has gotten a lot more efficient at entering the human body and becoming a sense even more effective because able to get your body easier and these vaccines are still based off of that original coronavirus and now studies are showing that sometimes a booster may only provide 6 to 10 weeks of effectiveness towards omicron before may have to get another booster and another booster and not something that is hard to address right now because we just figured out this vaccine set up and so research has to really catch up with that because we were not really used to creating vaccines at such a rapid pace over and over again with such high mutation rate, so the boosters were taking now addressing omicron were they still based on the original coronavirus.
So there still based on the original coronavirus variant by some health experts say that they protect you better against omicron because you're getting your body that extra boost in your body needs all the help they can get in order to be able to protect against omicron because it's so much more effective at entering the body, or at least that's what some researchers are saying right now so any help that you can give your body is needed because omicron is argue to be somewhat more dangerous and deadly than other variants, and so they want extra precautions to be taken in order to protect people so just whether different vaccines out here. There are different boosters. One of the difference between the boosters of like if if a take one closer to the Johnson & Johnson shot you have to have a Johnson & Johnson boosters are different. Are we looking for, so interestingly enough, a lot of research says that you should have mixed booster shots with your vaccine shots so if you have a Johnson & Johnson and you get an mRNA, you may be better protected because you have to different types of vaccines. Now what am I saying when I say two different types of vaccines that Johnson & Johnson vaccine is what's called a viral vector vaccine which is different than the McDermott and Pfizer vaccines that are called mRNA vaccines so basically the biggest difference is that the proteins of the virus are presented in different ways. Johnson & Johnson urinate kind of get direct presentation in modernity, Pfizer, you have a coding transcript that goes into your body and your bodies actually using that transcript to produce viral protein so it's two different ways that your body can detect what the virus is doing so it that way by having both your kind of expanding what your alarm system will react to persons having one will hurt you if you didn't have the prophecy was wrong was low so you have the Johnson & Johnson which is not in warranty. Whatever they it won't hurt to get the booster that has that it will confuse it. Actually, people say that it's probably better for your immune system have both because it expands that range of what your bodies alarm system is responding to only a few seconds left before before we we leave so if there's a person I know some people concerned about having to MR India shot is the is a booster have that unit as well. Yes, so the difference between a booster and a regular dose is a boosters half the dose of a regular but one thing that I would know is if you're looking between mRNAs modernity has twice as much mRNA as Pfizer. So if you're wanting less of an mRNA dollars, then you should go with a Pfizer shot or don't know a lot of places are not accepting Johnson & Johnson as a booster shot anymore. They're expecting you to have either a maternal or Pfizer booster wall. Usually, thank you for giving us update today and a lot of people are wondering what a booster is you give a great! Snack born when you're running a race. And so thank you for giving that information functional line. You can learn more always find out before you just get a shot, and thank you Homer for being with us for having me.
Folks would take a commercial break will be right back with our next guest.
This show is brought to you by generous Joe's coffee company with the Christian perspective, this is the answer that Christians and conservatives have been looking for a coffee company that gives back causes you care about. Order your copy today at shop generous Joe's.even subscribe to a subscription coffee plan and never forget the coffee you love or causes you care about is word in order to develop a Christian world and mariculture issues, and I am excited about the guest's name is Eugene is the head of an organization called Colorado to learn more about colors you were all convenient minority, you probably seen him on the Kenny thank you so much. Thanks so much Chris for this exciting to have you here talk about what you're doing so you are telling me. For those all your to go were people found out that relational discrimination and how the student process. What right so Harvard University right now your progressive Utopia, Harvard University, Bayerische discriminating against qualified Asian Americans and whites in the name of diversity, diversity and inclusion. That's what that's their motto mantra. As a result Asian Americans to score 440 points higher on the SAT to have the same chance of admission is a black and over hundred 50 points are have the same chance of mission as a white person so there's is hierarchy at Harvard has racial hierarchy. They want specifically racial diversity care mostly about the color of a person's skin and are willing to eliminate even objectively more meritorious applicants from their applicant just because of the color of their skin say they want to have diversity which is in college and is just crazy to me when I hear things that you have to go through school diversity. So our agent is not considered part of their diversity. They want to attract because they are overrepresented in higher achieving educational ratio Asian Americans. They gave themselves because they study hard as they work hard for parents train them to value education Asian Americans are some of the highest scoring highest achieving academically races in America today. In this culture, and in fact, Harvard University's own study said that if Asians were not discriminated Asian Americans would make up 43% of Harvard University student body and said they make about 18%, and that's because Harvard does not want to many Asians in their student body.
They think it messes up there. There diversity standards. They think it makes them look bad grade Asians lowest on personality because they have the stereotypes against Asian Americans as low personality. Human beings and they do this all justifying it on the name of diversity and inclusion comes exclusion you are usually considered one of the best schools in the world. The Asian students are performing what performance because performance you know Harvard has mantra they say grace is only one factor in the way we conduct admissions, while men merit is only one factor in the way they conduct admissions very very Harvard has very much become sensitive to the woke movement today and with the woke movement, critical race theory says right is that America is fundamentally white supremacist oppressive country that whites are at the top lecture at the bottom, and Asians.
They view Asians as this is this privileged minority is Asians are higher achieving they assume it must be because of their white privilege so they are willing to justify discrimination against Asians the same way they justify discrimination against whites supposedly supposed to write the system of discrimination in historic systemic racism is concerned about that. This is not an racial statement Colorado. If a student is not performing well on the SAT or not you want to handle coursework at Harvard or anywhere else so we got doctors and lawyers would be qualified. The group group. Yet now we have actual proof showing that if you admit a student into college but not apparent for major or not. For they do test performed much more poorly.
Take a look at law school. For example, using examples law school, new studies found that a and American black American Latino American was admitted based on affirmative action was less meritorious tends to graduate in the bottom 25 percentile of their law school class. Now this is detrimental to the because even though they got into a more prestigious law school and they otherwise would have gotten in the fact is the fact that the graduate in the bottom 25% of that law school actually influences everything. Graduation rates their initial starting salary. It affects things like the rates of matriculation and graduation their ability to pass the bar, gives them a false sense of security when in fact be be the top law firms are only going to admit those at the top of the class, not at the bottom so you're actually not helping the students by admitting them you heard so discriminating in the process but are they discriminating the classroom to the students cannot handle the workload down for the other students or the special students should've never been there in the first place of the helping them with grades in the classroom yes yes very much and in fact the new progressive mantra actually since the 90s. It's been around the elimination of gifted and talented program progressives don't like gifted and talented program is it assumes that correctly, that there are different intelligences.
The different capabilities among kids among students.
So actually the new movement in progressivism right now is to eliminate gifted and talented programs. Now with the for the sake of equity. They use the word equity. They say, and as a result, what happens is that you have these immensely gifted kids were put into classes with kids who were not so gifted as a result of teacher always is to teach the middle right teachers teach middle and as result be be intelligent kids are not getting the challenging education they need results in higher rates of depression results in an and in a low performance is fundamentally resulting these kids not to achieve the potential that they otherwise would have achieved college was a little show. I have a daughter. Academically the state of North Carolina. Three years ago decided that there will no longer be any valedictorians and high schools across as they don't want to recognize academic excellence.
Nor was the last element all my son is really really want to have these in classrooms and because the teacher happened is about having classes for gifted kids. He gets bored and the problem sometimes work is people's problems just are not being challenged in the classroom is exactly I'll give you another way that this this equity movement corrodes excellence in this country which is the subject of my book minority attack on Asian-American excellence. The fight from your toxic top sites high school in the country.
Thomas Jefferson high school very well recognized for producing the top scientists and engineers recently over the past 25 years Thomas Jefferson has gotten progressively more Asian right used to be predominately white now about 71% Asian, and these Asians they fight for their sponsorship merit. This right is admissions merit-based process will suddenly woke don't like this because there say what about black students. What about Hispanic students and the truth is these students are not admitted into Thomas Jefferson high school, not because they're black or Hispanic because they're just not performing at a competitive level. In fact, only 1% of the nation's top SAT math scores are are black. Unfortunately, that is an unfortunate reality. What we need, we can do what we need to address that we need to fix that we should compromise the system of excellence just to address that. So what happened is the woke when came into Fairfax County and they change radically overhaul Fairfax County Thomas Jefferson's admissions process to a guess what, to a lottery system, a lottery system. The top high school in the nation became a lottery system in a single year. You know what to do. The top high school in the nation during the top high school in the nation after one year and Kenny is not just hurting that high school, her nation were already underperforming in math and science stem across the world. This is an and you know miracle 1939 developed nations in the piece in math scores international math scores. We use a dose of excellence in this country, especially when you see countries like China, and on her tail and thereby already there there fighting for tech supremacy in the world are fighting for defense purposes will and trust me, China has no walls.
You know, China has no qualms with with with promoting the most excellent because of how much the cultural Revolution which is an anti-excellence revolution back in their country damage their country. The US is not careful it can fall directly to the same streets that China did all these programs, and athletics was okay. So there you go.
One of the things I always like to say is the NBA's 75% black, you know, what about equity in the NBA without admitting were Asians in the NBA. Why can't we have a percentage. Why can't we have 75% whites in the reality is, no one cares because you want want to recruit and train the best athletes. Without regards to their race that have a student at Davidson College was a nasty and I actually the while I was studying math Davis.
I did not intend to write this book with the Harvard case became a huge issue you know in 2018.
When the group Asian-American see Harvard and then I realized I just saw how disingenuous Harvard was pushing back when everybody discriminating against Asians for the past 20 years open secret. No one didn't know, and Harvard comes out and denies discrimination so that is a fundamental lie that Harvard was telling people, and I said no one. Harvard keeps lying I have to tell the truth, so I use my expertise in authoring written books before and I decided to pursue this project in inconvenient minority which I did.
I got a book contract for canal stores in July.
It's been a bestseller.
It's been so good this incredible story when you were doing your research, what started this same thing to do with other schools to see if others were the same practice, not just Harvard.
It is every university in the country as well as Stanford and IT loan exception in terms of top elite universities discrimination is Asians is Caltech California technology Institute in in in California only admits on academic merit which is what they were no proposed which the purpose of the University and as result, Caltech is about 50% Asians but also has like 15%. Latinos like 10%. Blacks and 35% whites and also you know it because of that admissions process over the past 25 years Caltech has gone from number 15 or lower in research papers produced per capita number five right below MIT so this shows that when you actually admit based on merit. You actually are treated more excellent university course you are building repetition diversity.
I hope MIT listens. So you were doing the research for those who are familiar with the case. What was the outcome what happened.
Well the outcome hasn't been decided yet it is moved through the courts.
