Thank You!Â
The following program is recorded content created by the Truth Network mobile show where biblical reality meets the everyday issues of life at work even in politics.
Steve is an ordinary man who believes in an extraordinary God it on a show, there's plenty of grace and lots of three no sacred call Steve now 634 true 866-34-TRUTH or checking out online, Steve Noble Joe.com now here's your house Noble back with you a lot of grooming going on out there and united states of America these days is nothing new. By the way thou this grooming going on. We generally think in terms of pedophiles right when you were grooming, but now you know what's going on in the public school system. There being groomed.
Starting in kindergarten I mentioned last week, a story right in North Carolina not in North Carolina right now Max at the Gaylord convention center right by the Grendel Opryland here in Nashville, Tennessee at the road the majority convention which is Faith and Freedom coalition the road the road the majority convention so I'm here I'm to be interviewing a bunch of different people over the next couple days. Donald Trump will be here tomorrow and after my having the chance to interview him on Monday that'll be pretty cool and so there's a lot going on a hopefully connect a lot of great leaders and thought leaders and politicians. A lot of names that you guys well now so I'll be here through Saturday and fly back on Monday so grooming our Sunday grooming going on all over the place in the low low grade, so last week in North Carolina right there in Raleigh, a prekindergarten special needs teacher teaching her kids about colors and used a flipchart that she bought from an LGBT QI A+ organization and so on the card for white was a quote unquote pregnant man. So the second grooming going on, the more more people are aware of today.
I just started reading a book.
I got the mail yesterday battle for the American mind by Pete headset that you know from Fox news is, David Goodwin has been in the classical Christian teaching model for a while uprooting a century of miss education in there talking about what's been going on in our public schools for 100 years. So there's a lot of grooming going on. So today on theology Thursday back with her good friend Dr. Renton Rathbun, who is the director of the Center for biblical worldview at Bob Jones University and working to talk about five ways that college professors can groom your kid right into being a good old Marxists atheist Dr. Renton Rathbun how are you my friend welcome back very welcome and so sorry that we can't get to do a little Facebook live today, but will get back to the next time and hopefully next month when you're on again I'll actually be down there at BJ you let this get a copy of this book Renton when you can battle for the American mind because this is been going on for a while. This basically looks at the public education system working a look at the at the college system and asked that question. Should Christians be sending their kids. Should we be sending our kids to a secular university, and this is a hot topic.
Obviously this is a couple of news pieces nearly 2 million kids left the public schools from 2020 to 20, 21 because of all the covert craziness that was in the Federalist every single state reported enrollment declines Catholic school enrollment. On the other hand spiked that went up by 3.8% so there's a lot of things going on out there, but when it comes to college and we just came out of graduation season. You guys just had graduation at BJ you this is a hot topic very important topic.
Is it not owe you will. Kremlin all throughout America, people are realizing how this is happening to their elementary through high school and if even more interesting to when we are 18-year-old go off to college.
If we think that that's gonna stop in a public college. We think that that grooming and all that work there doing the public high school is no longer going to happen in the college and then I think like you you referenced in today's article that I'm putting links up to on on Facebook right now for everybody so that you can read it for yourself in the article that Renton Road should my should my child go to Sackler University you reference the movie that came out just a few years ago. God is not dead were you had this really obvious antagonistic college professor who's going to go for the jugular. Every time it's in his youth. They find out that your kids are Christian.
He's going to go right at you but it's really not that it's not that obvious. Not every teacher in the secular university is out to destroy your faith.
But enough of them are that it's a it's a big deal and the system itself is so shot through with a non-biblical worldview that you really can't avoid. At least it doesn't seem like you can and I don't mean I'm out of my 20 some years of teaching. 15 of those years I taught at public high schools and universities are not high school public colleges and universities and and I'll tell you all of those of working in those. I found that there might find maybe one or two people that might be conservative and then of those you know there usually maybe Catholic, maybe they're just common sense people that don't agree with with liberal views. But as far as Christianity is very difficult to be a professor at a public college or university because if you're a Christian professor you have to you are obligated.
I think every professor is obligated to the truth. And if you're obligated to the truth. You can't stop short, in speaking of how the world works and how it relies on our God and even you know and there's almost no protection for Christian because nowadays it's not just that you have an unwanted point of view.
Now speech can be considered violent and so if you are becoming violent with your students by speaking things, you know, speaking truth to them. Referencing God's word and things like that. It doesn't matter what kind of tenure you have. It doesn't matter who you are. I mean even if you if you decide to use last names instead of preferred pronouns right right you can that's considered violence with an imagine what it's like for Christian so so you know, I know that the first response I get from people when I start challenging them on the you know are we gonna send her kids to a secular college, university, the first response is will you think it's a thin defend your kid's and call you and your kids over to Malacca or whatever and you know were not an active spin. The question is are they ready for what they're going to get because it's not like the movie got it right your knocking a walk in their know exactly where you stand and exactly where he stands and then you go to battle it starts off much more subtle yet very very subtle and it's kinda like the frog in the pot a little bit here and a little that there there's a lot of parents and grandparents listening to us right now. That kids I grew up in the public education system. They got the college they grew up in church, the Goldstar Christians. They got the college. Four years later than unrecognizable be right back talking to her and wrap my Nashville Road majority convention with my friend at Faith and Freedom coalition. I'm going to be interviewing a bunch of the leaders in Faith and Freedom coalition tomorrow and there were to be doing some interviews during the day tomorrow and again on Saturday that I'm in a record here and then play back on the show next. Over the next couple weeks so a lot of great big names that are here that you can recognize, so like people like Sen. Tim Scott Marsha Blackburn Lindsay Graham Rick Scott Mark Robinson Aramark Robinsons from North Carolina to try to get together with him represented Dan Crenshaw, Betsy DeVos is the former you effective education representative Jim Jordan folks like that someone around up as many interviews as I can in the next couple days and then not plan back so get ready for that. But today on theology Thursday talking to our friends today at Bob Jones University last week BG you seminary but it's Dr. Brent Rathbun, who is running the center for biblical worldview and were having a conversation today that neither one of us means for this to be condemning were not coming to burn down your house because your son or daughter went to a secular college or is going to a secular college. We just want to make sure everybody is fully aware of what happens there you go through that kind grooming process been one of the other things Renton and thanks again for your time today that that I want to make sure everybody understands and is by definition if you send your son or daughter off to a secular university, by definition, is not necessarily a terrible decision are not necessarily enough, all the way there are a lot of great ministries a lot of great things happening at secular universities Renton but you brought this up before the break. The big question is, is your son or daughter ready for that because even though that's there, mostly. That's not what's there so it's really kind of like finding a diamond in the rough. It is possible, but are your kids ready what you mean by that will I watch my colleagues for many years and I've noticed a kind of five step process that that they kind of cake and I'm not saying that there the diabolical people you know waiting to suck the soul out of every day.
You know it's this natural process that happens when you want someone to believe what you believe and and I've seen these five steps happen quite a bit in there quite effective as a teacher you want to know who your audience is when you enter a classroom, you're usually given a list of of names of the human being sitting in front of you and that's all the information you pretty much have on the first day of class until every teacher has little ways to try and figure out who's in front of me and it's always good to know what what you know if you have religious kids and their and you know how what kind of tone am I going to have based on who's in front of me and fill in so that there's like little ways to figure these things out and so like you know if I'm teaching a physics class and I want to know what kind of kids learn from you might say something like, you know, hey, welcome to physics.
So glad you're all here.
I know you know you many of you have to take the class but you know physics is quite quite comforting because physics relies on math and in the world that everyone's against each other and met each other, you know, we can all agree on math and I would say something like you know how many in your religion and I need you to hand over my religious kids in your own religion in then you would immediately want to affirm them because they might feel. You know, like always he gonna come after me, so that affirmative say something like, you know, that's awesome that you guys hold onto your faith especially in such a cynical world that we live in, if not easy and you know I really got to commend you. That's cool, and immediately they think, all while like God is not that it all with this guy with a PhD in physics just complimented me about having my faith and so you know immediately. The guard goes down because you're expecting tension and instead you get affirmation and Andy do that on purpose, not because the downside they hate the Christian but they want them to feel comfortable because in the end they seek Christian students not as an enemy, but as someone that has been abused and indoctrinated by something quite evil, called religion.
So stop right there because that I'd love to point this fact out that you're bringing up right now that secular people there. If there at some level anti-Christian. We know theologically, they all are but at some level of their anti-Christian, they have very negative view of religion, specifically Christianity, they are in the business of trying to rescue people that don't understand the truth air quotes and to help save them air quotes there actually kind of up to the exact same thing that we are.
I have an agenda I'm trying to find out if this is the person that's in front of me that's lost and I want to help them on help rescue them from their ignorance. I want to build a bridge with them so that I can awaken them and help them come out of the mire.
And that's exactly what they're doing that that's why mention it and I'll get you a copy and send it to you battle for the American mind this book that I tension from Pete access is that guy on Fox talks about a Greek word called today is not high AI which is a really good Spanish – it's pigtail which is kind of this whole environment that you're growing up in in our kids and in back up a little bit because our kids growing up in public schools, especially, even if they go to church Sunday morning service Sunday school. They come back for youth group.
They go to a midweek Bible study. The amount of time beginning in the public school system between kindergarten and 12th grade is 16,000 hours versus all that time at church which never amounts to more than like $2400 and it's the environment in which your being.
Cooks like that like your your just got buried in the singlet with the cooking term that we use is not meditating, marinating, and so that the college professors are trying to help your kid come out of their darkness right is not kinda what you're saying.
That's exactly what I'm saying and ended and it's a part of what I call pagan evangelicalism. Yes, there you go there pagans but they believe they have good news and good news is that you can get rid of this limitation of of religion and yourself free to be the person you really want to be.
Yes, this is a very tempting method because our rebellion inside her heart always want what that will look like. Yes, and they get to get to dwell on and and fill in that first step of acceptance. The students guard goes down, which opens them up for that very next which is distancing themselves from the fake and so that next step. They might say will who inheres religious numbers or hands if they that's awesome you guys know that you know in religion. You have a text and people disagree about the text, and so you have all these different denominations and people you know split out from those nominations you have nomination disagreement all at stuff, but in physics. We have math yeah we can all agree on math and we have an old discernible truths. Yeah, that's irrefutable as well as you guys guys are all over the map and still argue about it. Like the Crusades and not lion right through about different denominations out there. We generally agree about different things and you're not even bad mouthing thing. Look, this is the way it is that they get it and then use a button physics. We have this math and so there's what they're saying is you know it's great that you have your faith and you can keep it there on the weekend right now in my classroom. Yeah, it's not really gonna work going out put on hold right there talking to Dr. Renton Rathbun from Bob Jones University.
He's the director of the center for physical worldview. This grooming is a college secular universe. He talked about want to come in sociology Thursday with her talking to Dr. Renton Rathbun today. Back on the show who is the director for biblical worldview and bouncing off of this article that he wrote today. I put links up on Facebook for you. I'm not on Facebook live today might be tomorrow just didn't have time to get it all set up today down here in Nashville for the Faith and Freedom coalition road to majority 2022. So we got a bunch enemies are working on the next couple of days but I'll be back live tomorrow and hopefully Facebook live tomorrow, but I posted the link to the article should my child go to a secular university working through these five steps call them grooming which is not hyperbolic it actually is an accurate way of looking at it.
Grooming your kids for what your son or your daughter for what grooming them to leave the faith to believe a worldview other than a Christian worldview and its systematic and it's got five different steps were talking about it with Dr. and Rathbun today Renton again thanks man for taking the time to be with us.
Thanks for your welcome silver kind on a step two here. We talked earlier about. It's it's not a sin to send your son or daughter to to secular university, you have to really think seriously about it. Renton brought up the question. Are they ready, I would tell you if your son or daughter of went through 12 years of secular public schools. I don't care where they go to church or how often they were in church. There's a good chance that they're not ready, because they been indoctrinated for 12 years and don't even really know it until they get out of your house and once they get out of our houses they can think for themselves, they can say whatever they want they can read whatever they want and they can start exploring things because you're not around.
And so what happens on a college campus. It's not like God's not dead. The movie where you have really obvious professors that are just going for the throat every time it's a little more subtle and that so the first one of his five steps process for professors and Renton saw this himself teaching in the secular longtime number one, except even praise the student for his faith, though, your religion, so I appreciate your commitment and your trying to build that bridge just like we do, that's what you call it pagan evangelicalism and we try to build a bridge as well. Number two, distance their faith in the classroom materials greatly are Christian and that your religious but that doesn't really have anything to do with US history, world history or English words were dealing with verifiable facts here and so all of a sudden there's just a little wedge right is that what they're up to their your what you really want to do is create an environment within your classroom. You know if your secular you want to create an environment where all the world that that you appreciate that's wonderful is outside your classroom, but in your classroom.
This is the real world here. This is a hard fact and hear what you hear inheres. Gonna be absolute.
You know, verifiable truth.
If you find that you have of that other stuff outside the classroom. Here is what were doing here so I really marginalized a probably effective in marginalizing their faith. That's a Sunday thing that's a personal thing that's not out here in the real world and certainly not in physics or math or economics, such as that's nice that you have it.
It's like you little pet project that your little your little side gig but it's not part of the reality the bigger world so you so. Yet, drawing them away going okay, I'll start to just going to compartmentalize my fate.
Yeah, and which is which is a really useful tool if you can get them to come compartmentalize what you want to do is there's even a way that that you can make something like the faith seem it's almost tractable, even if it's myth because what they'll say something like you know there's some religions out there, so once they faced some you can automatically they will not mine) and they'll figure some religions out there you know that rely on myth to help them. You know have a richer faith and a better understanding of what their God means the myth of their tax and immediately the Christian thinking all will yeah maybe for Hindus and Muslims but you know he doesn't mean Christianity could be said Solomon.
So it helps them, but it gives them. It introduces that idea of well even if it's myth is still very youthful and he respects you and so you know, even with compartmentalizing you have this great tool to get them to leave all that out there and here we have reality which then set them up for step three, which is actually one of the most powerful tools that they have the most powerful tool you have is a college professor is being able to package a really complex and sophisticated idea into something students can understand and that is not eventful if you're if you're talking you're dealing with something like you're talking about quantum field theory and general relativity and how the mathematics doesn't quite work and your you know your all that is very confusing is very complex, but as a professor you you know you're there because you understand it enough to know how to package it just right so that something that complex, like quantum field theory can be understood now. Once that kid you know here is that I get that I understand something like quantum field theory. No, they might only understand an aspect of it, but even that can really be powerful because you know you got a lot of kids out there that kind of have decided or maybe the family has decided there just not the smart one. We have the smart one.
You know Frank is a smart one but you know Johnny here.
Edith never could get his head around stuff. Then he find it in the classroom were a PhD has explained quantum field theory in a way that they're comprehending it and they start thinking will. Maybe I'm smart maybe that's why I'm I'm someone that smart in a different way and that that's a part of my identity now. Now I am a smart person and might I know for a fact mom and dad don't understand quantum field theory rang so my brothers and sisters don't understand it and I know my pastor doesn't understand it but I understand you going to go ahead and say one of the things about this is most of that when you start and I've met a lot of these kids have been around the homeschooling world for 17 years, our kids are 26 down to 17 I seen a lot of these stories something you know that the few that stick in and get stronger and and unfortunately the majority that fall away their story isn't over until God says it's over. And so we have to remember that, but oftentimes they end up coming back in. This is normal for a lot of us that when Opera college would come back and I'll send where the smart one in her parents are stupid, but this is there's an insidious side to this. And in this and that's why I'm glad you're you are using the phrase grooming because you're bringing them along. Because you can get to the point number four.
But you gotta get them to start going hey you know it at that. I came here to get smarter. I am smart. Therefore, and that leads to some other thing that's right because the temptation within all young people.
If I could even say even with enough adult that we want to be special. You mean you you think about, you know, what is it that makes me different than other people and you know, I know, Disney and all these other other movie places act like you know whatever makes us whatever makes us different makes a special already know that one already relies on that. That's why people are always proud of their majors when they go into college.
You know I am a literature major so that means I must like books and I'm no introspective until they have if they can pray on that and say you know this information, I'm giving you is something that not everyone understands and now you're special for understanding it that so powerful because then you can really set them up for that next step in the next is the devastating step and what that what you do then say as the semester goes on. You take that sophisticated idea. You give them and you say now, of course, if you're going to believe this sophisticated idea of giving you. It definitely conflicts what the Bible you do have to give up at least those first few chapters of the Bible is the original real issue right now. I got a crisis of faith because now they're putting in a situation where you can't be both. They are incompatible. You can't be smart from a secular university standpoint, which is why your parents sent you here to make you smart or smarter and hold on to your mythical childhood upbringing.
When you book quite frankly didn't have the freedom to think for yourself. I mean talk about a beautiful piece of fruit hanging on the tree yeah I mean is already every influence you know in their lives from their music to the movies and screaming at them.
Authority is evil.
You know you need to be your own person and now you're at this place that makes you believe because of the path they took you to that. You want to that idea that that path, whether it's a good path or not they have no idea. And so, as they look at that path, they realize the path it took me to this idea. That makes me feel smart is in direct conflict with maybe the first two chapters of my Bible you and and then the professor really has them because they can say well you know you don't have to believe this, which then puts you back in that world where your dumb person that doesn't know any better anymore. Yeah anything.
We don't want that you're not special anymore exactly right yet and not only are you not special, but your foolish and childlike and holding on to submit something or not, still holding onto your love of Superman are you.
You do realize that not real, nor is your biblical" biblical faith talk to Dr. rented Rathbun about secular colleges will be going around taking the plug of Agostino will show the reality Thursday with our friends at DJ you seminary as well as Bob Jones University broadcasting today and tomorrow from Nashville here at the Gaylord convention center right next Opryland road to majority 2022. What that at Faith and Freedom coalition. So I've got a bunch of even a bunch of interviews all conduct over the next couple days and get those recorded in get get back to our Raleigh, God willing.
On Sunday, and you'll hear those on the show. The next couple weeks. A lot of great political thinkers here in Christian leaders. So we look forward to having some great interviews and will have several of them on the show tomorrow, so make sure your back, I'll be live tomorrow. God willing here in Nashville. But today talking to our friend rented Rathbun. Dr. Rathbun is the director of the Center for biblical worldview. Donna Bob Jones University going through this conversation talking about. Should my child go to a secular university. Unfortunately, most of them will. It's not necessarily the end of the line for them. There's lots of great things that God is doing on secular campuses got up to go to work for you. Gotta find it and they have to be dedicated to but there's a lot of forces working against them, which is why were using the phrase grooming what's going on with grooming pagan evangelicalism is alive and well on just about every secular college campus out there, so it's important conversation, especially since we just got done with graduation and a lot of you are sending your sons or daughters off to college for the very first time.
Are there already there, and you may be noticing some shifts are some holes in their faith or their profession of faith and so there many of them will go to this process that Renton is leading us through these five steps number one, except even praise the student for your faith for their faith. Kinda building a bridge. Hey, my preference is okay with Christians is fine.
Number two. Distance faith in the classroom material. All of a sudden, in order to deal with the real world and here verifiable facts just cannot relegating to their Christian their Christian faith to the back of the room number three. Introduce a well packaged, easy to comprehend sophisticated concept within his subject area meeting in that class so that your student starts to think well you don't gosh, I get that this make sense to me and I'm learning man. I'm pretty smart, and eventually I step four demonstrate sophisticated idea majorly conflicts with the Bible's and now your student is having to pick my going to remain Canada's dedicated Christian, believing the Bible a really old book, or now that I'm smart from and to maintain my intelligence. Maybe it's time for me to start casting away my faith or just relegating it to a smaller and smaller corner in my life and then you get the point number five. The rent again, thanks for being here today such an important topic.
Thank you. I is a hugely important topic because you know it's not just that were talking about you know when your child goes to like one class, you know, kind of puts this formula together and this is that one class of the worry about, you know were talking about this process were time of this is a process that happens throughout most of the classes they're taking. I mean, think about how many classes this process is happening in most kids take what were sometimes five classes this semester. Yeah, but 140 credit hours in most colleges for an undergrad degree, that's a lot of class and and if they're going away to to a secular university. I mean, you know some kids stay home and go to the local community college University.
Some people go away and if they're going away. You know then there's the entire other grooming system that happened in the dorms as well as the event on Kant and all that sort of stuff, but this shows even if even if all they're doing is going to a local community college University.
This process is still in incredibly effective yeah this is even sorry. One of the even as you know they go through this conflict and are thinking about will you know what I call this a false dichotomy where there they think they have to choose between their faith and being in the intelligent world around them. They have they think they have no one to turn to even greater going home every day they been isolated by the professor so much that they think like my parents can help me. My pastor can tell me that understanding complex ideas and so they remain isolated, even at home and even at church yet so they'll come home don't go to church go to Christmas to go at Easter. But then I think most of them assume if I start questioning some things about Christianity or the Bible or even my own faith when I'm back with my family and friends.
My church crowd that's not going to go out there going to judge me there going to start treating me like garbage and so I'm just going to come home and play like everything's fine and that's that. Point number five you're walking through right now. This grooming process isolate students from parents and pastor, which happens anyway. Especially to go off to college and but it's happening intellectually and emotionally as well because there being more tethered to the secular world of intelligence in the University academia and cutting cords with kind of their old childhood which was all about going to church. That's right, you would even mentioned that there are things on campus that are helpful. I mean they have no crew right have all kinds of Christian things on campus that are allowed to be there form University Fellowship have all these different things, but even then you know the guys that run that are you know might have an M.Div., they might. It might be well educated, you know, in their in theology and things like that but they don't have the precision of knowledge that the PhD in their room that these guys may or may not be able to help the student that is having real doubt or real issues because of the things where you really do think are in the mind. They fester in the mine. I think like I had a friend of mine text me at the beginning the show because there's a university north Carolina. Chapel Hill is, as I've heard about appearance is called the North Carolina study center and some pretty wealthy Christians got together and they bought this beautiful old home right down the main drag around campus and that's become this bastion almost like kind of on the breed type environment and and it's excellent but my question is which students are going to go there which Christian students are going to go there.
Could you mention this in the top at the beginning of the show are is your son or daughter. They prepared to go into this environment and if there are more mature and stronger in their faith and of intellectual faith. Then there going to gravitate to things like the going to study center or to RUF order crew or whatever and I think there's a lot of kids that go off to college and their their faith really isn't set in stone. They have pretty weak theology pretty weak worldview and they're knocking to gravitate towards those things because I can. It represents what they left. So I think yeah abs absolutely can have some students. Our son went to a totally secular university in Orlando media arts school is just surrounded by secularism and anti-Christianity aminos a bit obvious in the media arts school. Gosh, what would what else would you expect, but he flourished that he got right into a church. He had a very strong intellectual faith and he flourished. But that's not normal think that's the normal. I think that's exception to the rule or the fruit and it is so encouraging to hear young people going out there and fighting the fight because they've been trained how to fight right. I mean it really comes down you we when I was in basic training, you know, they didn't just throw an M-16 in her hand.
We had several weeks of training of what it's like to be a soldier what it's like to obey orders what it's like to be on on out the field and what it's like all these things before they put a gun in her hand and once they put a weapon in her hand.
You know were already then we get trained on that and all that training is designed for battle.
There's a lot of training before they were put a weapon in your hand and that is not a training with the weapon so that if and when you get into a war situation if and when you get into a conflict that you're ready you been trained and the problem is for most of our kids as they grow up not really in a boot camp. They grow up, and in the safe arena were nobody's questioning each other and a lot of kids big and I know this because I teach a lot of students write. I teach a lot of students have for 10 years now and that's why we started noble you so that I could teach more noble you as an University school.com and and they're just growing up, and in they talk about echo chamber we talk about the echo chamber and mainstream media. There's an echo chamber that happens in our our evangelicalism and they don't get challenge. They don't get into fights if you don't get into fights you never have to learn how to defend yourself and then you got to college and have a problem finishing your thought in terms of just getting prepared for battle, so that once you're in it, you're ready to go. They don't just slap a M-16 in your hand and throw you out in Afghanistan getting a trained person.
That's the challenge and working run out of time, but I wanted to let I think working at working to be together again next month.
Renton and I think were actually to try to do it there on campus.
So when we do, I'd like to like to do a follow-up showed this one and discuss two things I want to talk about. You have alternatives in terms of Christian education what kind of Christian education actually works.
Just because it calls itself a Christian university doesn't necessary mean to be effective, so want to talk about that. Obviously that's in your wheelhouse there at Bob Jones University that I also want to talk to the majority of people that literally think they can't afford private school and they have to send their kids to a state schools if you're going to do that. How do you get them prepared like how do you prepare your student to deal with these five steps of grooming that a lot of professors are getting use to reach the hearts of our Christian kids.
